Do you like the Internet in its current state? Do you like that you have the same ability to visit FR as you do Google, Yahoo!, etc?
Then why would you be against network neutrality? That is the basis of net neutrality. It is regulation, yes, but it regulates how bandwidth providers treat traffic that uses its network. Net neutrality would stop bandwidth providers from discriminating against websites or applications that use their networks. It essentially is an idea to preserve the level playing field that is the Internet currently.
I really hope that if this becomes a hotly debated issue that everyone on both sides really stops and thinks about what net neutrality is. Is it really another communist plot to want to keep the Internet open and fair? Do you want these companies discriminating against certain websites and giving them second-class service? Or do you like the fact that FR has the same access to its users as any other site does on the Internet right now? Who is AT&T or Verizon to tell you that FR doesn’t deserve the same quality of service? This is what net neutrality aims to stop, folks. Is this discrimination happening yet? Not yet. Could it happen? Definitely, look at our cable TV ffs. It’s just a matter of time.
In closing, the Internet as it is, is currently the last bastion of free speech in the World. Net neutrality does not want to change this, it wants to protect this. Don’t let your mistrust of the Democrats cloud your judgement on this one. Believe it or not, even scumbags have good ideas once in a while.
One last thing, if you don’t believe me that’s fine, don’t take my word for it. I encourage you to please, go find some non-partisan articles on the issue. Learn about the technical aspects of net neutrality. Find out what it really means, before you decide.
