  • RNC Canvassing Lists: The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight; This is the real reason Republicans fail so badly at winning elections

There is nothing more fundamental to electioneering than taking a list of registered voters, knocking on their doors, pitching your candidate, handing each a flyer, and getting them all out to vote. This is the building block of election management. It is stunning how absolutely incompetent the Republican Party is performing this fundamental task. Last week, NBC News did a story about how the canvassing for Republican candidates was so bad that it likely lost the Senate elections in Nevada and Georgia, and probably others as well. Our Republican Party pals could not deliver a list of voters that was...

The Republican Party, after having a dismal showing in last year’s midterm elections, has still been trying to figure out what went wrong. Many on the right have pointed to issues like abortion, ineffective messaging, lack of election integrity, and other factors to explain why the red wave never materialized. But a new report suggests that the GOP might be better served by looking inward at its campaigning practices to identify what is likely a prime culprit in this matter.According to an article by NBC News, the Republican Party’s large-scale voter contact effort, which involves canvassing and door-knocking, is plagued...

Eighty-four-year old Joan Jacobson never imagined she would be shot when she knocked on the door of a Michigan couple’s home, hoping to convince them not to vote for local pro-abortion ballot proposal. Sharon Harvey answered the door and quickly became “hostile, belligerent, and antagonistic” when she learned Jacobson’s mission, according to David Kallman, Jacobson’s attorney with the Great Lakes Justice Center. A social media account that appears to be Harvey’s features content strongly pro-abortion and heavily critical of Republicans. She did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Daily Signal. In a Thursday phone interview with The...
  • Answering the Door (good advice for the vaccination canvassers)

Answering the Door Don't open your door at the sound or a knock or bell. Know who's at your door before opening it. Install a wide-angle peephole in your front door so you can look out without being seen yourself.Don't rely on chain locks for security. They're only good for privacy.Don't open the door to a delivery or service person unless you are expecting a package or a call. Ask for the person's name and the name and phone number of the company. Call it to confirm the visit. Keep the door closed and locked in the meantime.Check photo registration...
  • Keene canvasser offers glimpse into Elizabeth Warren's ground game

Hillary Ballantine leaves little to mystery when knocking on doors for Elizabeth Warren. Ballantine, 28, of Keene, is usually swagged out in attire from the Democratic presidential candidate’s campaign — from a navy blue Warren hat to a “the best president money CAN’T buy” T-shirt — in addition to toting a clipboard and brochures. Like any door-to-door canvassing, the environmental scientist and Antioch University New England alumna’s volunteering often draws no answer. But on Saturday morning — still four months out from the New Hampshire primary — some residents she met had already been reached by the campaign before. After...
  • Unions put teachers on streets — for votes

Teachers unions are struggling to protect their political clout, but as the midterm elections approach, they’re fighting back with their most popular asset: the teachers themselves. Backed by tens of millions in cash and new data mining tools that let them personalize pitches to voters, the unions are sending armies of educators to run a huge get-out-the-vote effort aimed at reversing the red tide that swept Republicans into power across the country in 2010. The unions have plenty of money: They spent $69 million on state races in 2010 and are likely to top that this year. But as they...
  • VANITY: Your precinct canvassing stories (good, bad and ugly)

This is the first year I've been canvassing a precinct and I must say it's been an adventure. I'm getting to know my neighborhood, my neighbors and the vibe of the voting public. As the old saying goes, you meet some of the most "interesting" people. Reactions range from smiles, enthusiasm, blank poker faces, war stories from vets, "huh?" to a the rare "get off my property whippersnapper!!!" I'm canvassing for Deb Fischer (NE, US Senate) and it's been a blast. 95% positive with lots of good reactions. What are your canvassing stories?

I'm in the process of getting an iPad-3 and was wondering if there were any apps for precinct walking. 1. Map of precincts with the addresses of GOP registered voters. 2. Easy way of accessing candidate's platform if a vote has a question (can also incorporate graphs, pictures and videos) 3. Video of the candidate speaking directly to the voter asking for their vote. 4. Method of taking down information such as marking off houses visited, those who want more information or wish to contribute/volunteer

I am not the kind to sit idly by and let a good crisis go to waste so I decided to act... this is what I found. For example, Dr Eugenie Scott of the staunchly anticreationist National Center for Science Education (NCSE) revealed their agenda when she said: “ … I would describe myself as a humanist or a nontheist. I have found that the most effective allies for evolution are people of the faith community. One clergyman with a backward collar is worth two biologists at a school board meeting any day! … What we [such clergy and atheists] have in common is that we want to see evolution taught in the public schools … .”4

From The Center for Constitutional Studies Democratizing the Constitution: The Failure of the Seventeenth AmendmentC. H. Hoebeke*[From HUMANITAS, Volume IX, No. 2, 1996 © National Humanities Institute, Washington, DC USA] It was with no small sense of vindication that Secretary of State William Jennings Bryan signed the proclamation of 31 May 1913, declaring the Seventeenth Amendment duly ratified and incorporated into the fundamental laws of the United States. More than twenty years earlier as a Nebraska congressman, "The Great Commoner" had joined the struggle to free the Senate from the control of corrupt state legislatures, and despite three failed campaigns for...
