The success of Al Gore’s global warming shockumentary An Inconvenient Truth has created a very convenient truth for companies that sell “carbon offsets,” reports today’s edition of The Tennessean: Rising sales. Meanwhile, it turns out that the company from which Gore gets his own carbon offsets spends very litle of its revenue on carbon-offsetting projects, according to a recent study by the Tufts University Climate Initiative. More on that in a minute. And read this whole post - it isn’t just about Gore and his carbon offsets, but about the larger issue of whether carbon offsets are in and of...

Al Gore is not profiting from his crusade against global warming, a spokesman for an investment firm co-founded by the former vice president said Tuesday. Gore's London-based employee-owned company, Generation Investment Management (GIM), purchases -- but isn't a provider of -- carbon dioxide (CO2) "offsets," said spokesman Richard Campbell. GIM is strictly an investment firm that considers how eco-friendly corporations are in assessing long-term sustainability, Campbell told Cybercast News Service by phone from London. After Gore came under fire last week for high energy consumption in his Tennessee mansion, one explanation offered by his defenders was that he pays for...
  • Al Gore forms exploratory committee for '08 run - Promises a "carbon neutral" America

Former Vice-President Al Gore today formed an exploratory committee aimed for a presidential run in '08. He cited a lack of current candidates who are paying significant attention to the problem of Global Warming. His major policy change, according to a statement released by Mr. Gores campaign, would be for the government to become actively involved in forcing carbon-neutral lifestyles on normal, everyday Americans. "Mr. Gore firmly believes that excessive power consumption releasing unacceptable amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere causes global warming". He will therefore propose legislation that will determine, according to family size, how much power they can...

Get ready to hear a lot about carbon-neutral living in the days and months ahead. It's the new euphemism for Escalade-driving environmentalists who "purchase" carbon credits to assuage any guilt about their private jets and 20,000 square foot summer homes.
  • How Coldplay's green hopes died in the arid soil of India (Bad Carbon "Offsets")

When Coldplay released its second hit album, A Rush of Blood to the Head, the band said that part of the environmental damage caused by its production would be offset by the planting of 10,000 mango trees in southern India. More than four years after the album's release, however, many of Coldplay's good intentions have withered in the arid soil of Gudibanda, Karnataka state, where the saplings it sponsored were planted. The idea of saving the world while making music was proposed by Future Forests, a British company since renamed CarbonNeutral. It declared that the scheme would soak up carbon...
  • Carbon Neutral

Just another reason Carbon Neutral is a farce. The whole global warming concept is that we have damaged our earth to the point we are doomed or almost doomed. Yet Gore and the Green people preach becoming carbon neutral. This does not make sense at all. Gore and the greenes (not to be confused with the treats my dogs love) should be carbon negative. They should be going beyond neutralizing the carbon they are responsible for and ie going beyond neutral to the point they can make a large difference after all we need to reverse the damage done already...

Gore Attacked For High Electricity Bills Conservative Group That Disputes Global Warming Says Ex-Vice President Isn't "Walking The Walk" NASHVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 28, 2007 (AP) Al Gore, a leading voice against global warming, is being criticized by a conservative group that claims his Nashville mansion uses too much electricity. A spokeswoman for Gore said the former vice president invests in enough renewable energy to make up for the home's power consumption. Gore's documentary film "An Inconvenient Truth," which chronicled his campaign against global warming, won an Academy Award on Sunday. The next day, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research put...

Gore Responds to Charges His House Uses Too Much Electricity Tuesday , February 27, 2007 FC1 ADVERTISEMENT Al Gore responded to charges that his house consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, with the new Oscar winner saying he has taken many steps to reduce the carbon footprint in his home. The former vice president and former presidential candidate told Thinkprogress.org that he has signed up for 100 percent green power through Green Power Switch, installed solar panels and uses compact fluorescent bulbs and other energy-saving technology. He said he also buys...

Lately I’ve been hearing more and more about people living a carbon neutral lifestyle. Recently the owner of an upscale restaurant wrote an “As I see it” column (the local paper’s term for a glorified letter to the editor) explaining that her gift (Christmas I assume) to others is that she is going to do her best to live a carbon neutral lifestyle. She’s been on the globalwarming bandwagon for a while, earlier in the year she lectured us (in a letter to the editor) that she now owns a Prius to help us out. So after reading her missive...

Oprah Sees Manhattan Under Water, Pleads for People to See Al Gore Film on DVD Posted by Tim Graham on October 27, 2006 - 08:19. On Monday's edition of Oprah, devoted to "Moms Around the World," Oprah Winfrey talked to an Eskimo mom, Mary Swisher, about the challenging life in Kotzebue, Alaska, but Winfrey turned the conversation to how global warming is ruining an Alaskan town, and then pleaded for everyone in the audience to see Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth, "coming out on DVD November 21st," because it warns that "millions of people are going to have to...

A group of scientists is questioning the worth of Al Gore's flying visit to New Zealand. The former US vice-president will arrive for half a day next month to promote his film on global warming, An Inconvenient Truth. During the 80 minute movie, Gore argues for the need to take immediate action to combat climate change. The New Zealand Climate Science Coalition does not accept arguments about man-made global warming. Spokesman Owen McShane claims Gore has been liberal with the truth in his film, when he says Pacific Islanders have been evacuated because their islands are drowning. "There are no...
