Hundreds of people from Iran and around the world have submitted art for a “Holocaust cartoon contest,” an official from the competition said Monday. Secretary Masud Shojaei-Tabatabaii told Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency that 839 works had been submitted to the Second International Holocaust Cartoon Contest, a cynical sequel to a much derided 2006 competition making light of the slaughter of 6 million Jews in Europe during World War II. Organizers putting on the contest say it is designed to highlight the world’s double standard in defending caricatures of the Muslim prophet Mohammed, whose depiction is taboo in Islam. The...

We’re at a turning point. I genuinely believe that this is a moment on which we’ll reflect… and the people who refused to fight back, who refused to run a damn cartoon, will find themselves on the wrong side of history. WARNING: Mildly Offensive Language DOUBLE WARNING: Video EXTREMELY offensive to Muslims.

There's been outrage over everything lately. Over cartoons, over the Avengers... well how about an Avengers cartoon? Better yet, how about the most politically incorrect cartoon you'll watch this week? What would the world look like if our superheroes had to tow today's lines of political correctness? Oh yes, we went there...

It wasn't a fair fight. On one side, you had two men in body armor, toting assault rifles and showing every willingness to open fire now and count their victims later. On the other, you had a security officer -- a traffic officer by day -- with a pistol. Somehow, the officer won. Authorities have not released the name of the overmatched Garland, Texas, police officer who stopped a pair of gunmen Sunday night. But they have described what he did, actions that could be characterized as equal parts skillful, heroic and miraculous. The event started, by all accounts, without...

The winner of Sunday night's draw Muhammed art contest, which was attacked by terrorists influenced by ISIS, is speaking out and pleading for the West to fight back against attacks on free speech. "We can't be cowed by this because once this goes, once free speech goes, it's over," Bosch Fawstin said during an interview with Fox News' Greta Van Susteren. "I've been drawing Muhammed for years and I heard about the contest and I took it upon myself to take part in it. I think it's an important thing. It's about freedom of speech, which is deadly important, especially...

Cartoonists are Controversial and Murderers are ModeratePosted By Daniel Greenfield On May 5, 2015 @ 12:55 am In Daily Mailer,FrontPage | No Comments [1]Controversial, intolerant and provocative. Mainstream media outlets broke out these three words to describe the “Draw the Prophet” contest, the American Freedom Defense Initiative and Pamela Geller. While the police were still checking cars for explosives and attendees waited to be released, CNN called AFDI, rather than the terrorists who attacked a cartoon contest, “intolerant.” Time dubbed the group “controversial.” The Washington Post called the contest, “provocative.”Many media outlets relied on the expert opinion of the Southern Poverty Law Center, a multi-million...

A Texas traffic cop saved untold lives Sunday night when he took down two heavily armed men bent on storming a building where a 'Draw the Prophet' Muhammad contest was taking place, killing both before they could make their way inside. The police officer, who has not been identified by Garland Police Department officials, "probably saved lives," said police spokesman Joe Harn, who added that "his reaction, and his shooting with a pistol, he did a good job." Harn said the two suspects, believed to have driven some 1,100 miles from Phoenix to invade the contest at a suburban Dallas...

Pamela Geller puts her azz on the line for us, the least we can do is catch her pass and run it for a touchdown. there isn't a one of us who wouldn't take a bullet for her. She's attacking the lefty media and Islam at its Achilles heel - the 1st Ammendment and we need to exploit that breach. I've seen a lot of savvy, biting satire images and comments here on Free Republic, really funny stuff that will hold up in any venue. We got the chops and now it's time to use them and create a Conservative...

What Buzz Lightyear Taught Me About Humility By: Msgr. Charles PopeThere was movie some years ago that most of you have probably seen called Toy Story. It had a deep impact on me, for it came out at a critical moment in my life.It was my 33rd year of life and the 6th year of my priesthood. As I have related elsewhere, I had suffered a nervous breakdown that required a week in the hospital and a month off to recuperate. What drove me to that point was being asked to take an assignment I really wasn’t ready for. I...

This tweet from film director Amos Posner blew up across social mediayesterday. It's a photo taken at the What’s Up, Doc? The Animation Art of ChuckJones exhibit at the American Museum of Moving Image in New York: Jones' rules, first made public when he published them in his 1999 autobiography Chuck Amuck: The Life and Times of an Animated Cartoonist, areprobably pretty familiar to animation students and Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote fanatics. They are a fascinating testament to the need for clearly defined systems within a wacky creative process. Fun fact: In an interview for the book Hollywood...

This week, the FCC voted 3-2 in favor of implementing net neutrality policies. These rules will prevent internet service providers like Verizon or Comcast from blocking or throttling traffic, ban giving priority to providers who are willing to pay for faster service, and reclassify broadband as a telecommunications service. This means that internet service will now be regulated under stricter, utility-based laws the government currently uses to control wired telephone and other similar services. The pro-NN moves made by the FCC have come under attack from both activists, and members of Congress. A recent poll shows that only 1 in...

The clip, meant to stress the importance of paying attention in church and meetings, has been criticized for insinuating that not fully focusing during such gatherings can result in dying, even connecting the concept to the story of Noah’s Ark. JW.org has not yet responded to the backlash. A Jehovah's Witness promotional cartoon has been slammed for appearing to threaten children who don't pay attention in church with death. Viewers have dubbed the controversial animated clip, posted to YouTube by JW.org, as "stupid," "dumb" and "mind control." It begins with two youngsters attending a service with their parents. A little...

The leader of Pakistani politico-religious party Jamaat-e Islami is claiming that the Western "extremist standpoint" on the freedom of news organizations to publish "blasphemous caricatures" of Islam's prophet Muhammad will ultimately lead to World War III. In addressing the thousands in attendance at a Friday protest over the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, which publicized cartoons portraying Muhammad, the influential chief of the Jamaat-e Islami party, Sirajul Haq, demanded that the United Nations make laws designed to prevent the media and others from mocking religious personalities. Haq explained that the West's leniency and tolerance in dealing with those who mock...

Following the terrorist attack on Charlie Hebdo in Paris, Reuters is reporting that many cartoonists are publishing cartoons with the hashtag #jesuischarlie; I am Charlie in French. But the cartoons that they are publishing are anything but similar to the ones published in Charlie Hebdo that resulted in the attack. Most of the ones published by Reuters feature some variation on the theme that the "pen is mightier than the sword" or the rifle, in this case. This is the cowards way out. If these cartoonists had any real courage, they would publish a cartoon that shows the Prophet...
