But public relations director Deron Smith on Thursday thanked the Peoria-based heavy equipment manufacturer for its past support. Earth-moving equipment maker Caterpillar (CAT) said it plans to develop natural gas engines for mining trucks and off-road machines with Westport Innovations (WPRT). Commercial production is expected to begin in about five years, the companies said. Westport Innovations shares were up 18.2% in early trading Tuesday to 26.32.
