Major-college football experienced its largest per-game attendance drop in 34 years and second-largest ever, according to recently released NCAA figures. Attendance among the 129 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams in 2017 was down an average of 1,409 fans per game from 2016. That marked the largest drop since 1983 when average attendance declined 1,527 fans per game from 1982. The 2017 FBS average of 42,203 fans per game is the lowest since 1997. At least one person wasn’t happy to see Donald Trump in attendance for Monday's national championship game. Alabama running back Bo Scarbrough appeared to yell “F--k Trump!” before taking the field, in a video captured by Sporting News. Any mystery about Alabama's runner-up trophy from last season was answered Thursday. It exists no longer. A video posted from the Instagram account of Crimson Tide receiver Jerry Jeudy shows strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran destroying the hardware. He raised the trophy above his head and threw it to what appears to be the locker room floor. Cochran finished off the remains with a sledgehammer. The language was not suited for all ages. ATLANTA -- Atlanta's mayor is promising a "safe, smooth and secure" college football championship game Monday, despite the traffic problems expected to be caused by President Donald Trump's motorcade, but none of the many agencies involved are taking any chances.

And although it’s enough to trigger a collective gag reflex in 39 states plus several U.S. territories, it’s a fact-based champion’s chant. “S-E-C! COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M senior starting defensive tackle Zaycoven Henderson was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, tampering with evidence and possession of marijuana, according to KBTX-TV. Two men pointed a gun at several people at Campus Village Apartments in College Station, according to the report, around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Police found the two trying to leave the apartments and later found marijuana and also the rifle in nearby woods, according to the station. The University of Tennessee's circuitous head-coaching search, which has taken on just about every twist imaginable, is nearing an end, as the Volunteers are finalizing a deal with Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, sources told ESPN. Tennessee expects to announce Pruitt as its football coach on Thursday, and a press conference to introduce him is planned for later in the day. Sources told ESPN that Pruitt plans to stay on as Alabama's defensive coordinator through the College Football Playoff, while pulling double duty as the Vols' head coach and spearheading their recruiting efforts and putting together his staff at Tennessee.

With a 240-yard rushing day against Auburn and an efficient day by Jake Fromm, Georgia again looks like the most complete team in the country, if not necessarily the best. At the moment, I’m projecting UGA to meet Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl. The last two Power 5 title games matter here, though.
