Democratic Florida Rep. Joe Garcia — fresh off being caught eating his own earwax on camera — was caught red-handed (or is it yellow-fingered?) in another gaffe this week, claiming that low crime rates in border cities with lots of federal immigration workers is proof that “Communism works.” Garcia made the comment during a Google hangout he convened last week to talk about comprehensive immigration reform with supporters. The Democrat attempted to point out how, for all their talk about limited government, many Republicans are fine spending loads of government money on border security. “Let me give you an example,...

Repeal the 2nd Amendment June 27, 2008 No, we don't suppose that's going to happen any time soon. But it should. The 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is evidence that, while the founding fathers were brilliant men, they could have used an editor. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
  • I am Ready to Leave the USA. Any Suggestions of Where to Live? [DU]

DU Thread - I would love to go to Canada but it seems we may be too old by the time we are able to leave in about two years. I am also considering Costa Rica, Panama and Mexico but any civilized non-fascist country will do. Please, any suggestions, help and/or links are greatly appreciated. I am hoping for no "stay and fight" or "coward" responses. I have two young boys who deserve to have a real future. That is not going to happen in this country.

BOULDER - Ward Churchill's lawyer said a decision to put the professor's sabbatical on hold amounts to retribution and that he'll likely will file a federal lawsuit. Denver lawyer David Lane responded Friday to the University of Colorado's decision to delay approval of the sabbatical pending the outcome of an investigation into allegations of plagiarism and research misconduct against Churchill. A subcommittee of the university's Standing Committee on Research Misconduct is expected to report its findings soon to the full committee, which would decide whether to order a full investigation of Churchill. If it doesn't, his request for a sabbatical...

The University of Michigan at Ann Arbor is slated to play host to a national student conference late next week, one of whose "guiding principles" is that it "condemns the racism and discrimination inherent in Zionism", the Jerusalem Post has learned. The Second National Student Conference on the Palestine Solidarity Movement, which is scheduled to begin on October 12, is being sponsored by pro-Palestinian and socialist groups. It aims to promote an end to US aid to Israel and to encourage divestment by universities and corporations from the Jewish state. In the conference's promotional material, organizers refer to "apartheid Israel",...
