An Australian mother of seven has given birth to a rare set of conjoined twins who have two faces, two brains, and share one body. Despite doctors’ advice to terminate the pregnancy, Renee Young and partner Simon Howie, proud parents of the “Aussie fighters,” Faith and Hope, welcomed the girls last Thursday after Young went into labor six weeks early via emergency C-section. The girls were born with the rare condition diprosopus, where the embryo fails to completely split and twins share one body. The two girls are now in stable condition and breathing without any assistance.

A medical team worked through the night to rebuild the bodies of two conjoined twins who were successfully separated after a daylong operation, a hospital spokesman said. A calm feeling filled the operating room at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles after surgeons gently cut the last pelvic bone connecting the sisters and moved on to the reconstruction phase of the marathon operation, said hospital spokesman Steve Rutledge. "They seem to be doing fine," Rutledge said. Ten-month-old Regina and Renata Salinas Fierros spent their first moments apart when one of them was wheeled to another room late Wednesday so plastic surgeons could...

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Doctors who conducted a series of tests on 10-year-old conjoined Indian twins said on Tuesday they believed it was possible to surgically separate the girls who were born fused at the head. Saba and Farah Shakeel, a roadside food stall owner's daughters, have been through a battery of tests at Apollo Hospital in the capital. Doctors say the separation surgery will be complicated because the girls share a major blood drainage vessel in the brain. Another big challenge is that only one girl has both kidneys, while the other has none. "We believe we can separate...

DALLAS (Reuters) - After conjoined Iranian twins died a few days ago during surgery to separate their brains, the medical world is focused on two bright-eyed Egyptian boys who are joined at the head and likely to be the next pair to undergo the highly risky operation. Two-year-old Ahmed and Mohamed Ibrahim are joined at the crown of their heads and may have separation surgery as early as the next few months. The two boys share a band of curly hair that circles the area where their heads are fused. They cannot stand because of the way their bodies are...

The bodies of the conjoined twins who died after an operation to separate them in Singapore have arrived home in Iran. Close friends of Laleh and Ladan Bijani were at the airport in Tehran to meet the coffins. A Muslim cleric said prayers over the bodies and a police band played a funeral march. The sisters will be buried on Friday in the village where the sisters were born near the city of Shiraz. The 29-year-old twins were warned by doctors they had only a 50-50 chance of surviving. But they decided to accept the risk in the hope they...

Surgeons Separate Iranian Twins, Both in Critical Condition SINGAPORE (AP) - Neurosurgeons on Tuesday finished separating two 29-year-old Iranian twins joined at the head, who were in critical condition after the procedure, a hospital spokesman said. "We should pray very hard for them," Dr. Prem Kumar said. The surgery will last for at least another 24 hours as a team of plastic surgeons graft tissue taken from the twins' thighs to cover their brains to protect them, Kumar said. The team of doctors had to contend with unstable pressure levels inside the twins' brains just before they worked to uncouple...

I was watching the news today and noticed yet another case of conjoined twins undergoing separation surgery. I must first lay some groundwork about myself prior to making my statements. I am a father. I would never hesitate to give my life for my child. With that out of the way, I have noticed several highly publicized separations and also have taken note of the cost. In the case of the kids that were joined at the head, they were talking about 20+ doctors over 2 days (or something close). They never mention the cost, but I assume (based on...
