Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal is expected to undergo surgery on Sunday after fracturing his femur. The Connecticut Democrat fractured his femur during a mishap at the victory parade for the UConn Men’s Basketball team on Saturday, News 12 Connecticut reported. The Huskies won the Men’s NCAA Basketball National Championship earlier this week. According to the outlet, someone was taking a video of the 77-year-old senator during the parade and fell on top of him which caused the injury.

An explosion in Middletown, Connecticut has rocked the town. Initial reports are that about a dozen people have been injured. Middletown, United States - The Middletown Fire Department just said in a phone interview that they are in the process of putting out a second alarm. There are an unknown number of casualities. The explosion took place at NRG Power Plant on River Road. According to their web site they are the fossil-fueled electric generating plant in the state. Reports are saying that the blast could be felt as far away as Durham.

For CCSU student John Wahlberg, a class presentation on campus violence turned into a confrontation with the campus police due to a complaint by the professor. On October 3, 2008, Wahlberg and two other classmates prepared to give an oral presentation for a Communication 140 class that was required to discuss a “relevant issue in the media”. Wahlberg and his group chose to discuss school violence due to recent events such as the Virginia Tech shootings that occurred in 2007. NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Serial killer Michael Ross, at times crying, testified Tuesday that he believes he deserves to live, but doesn't want to pursue any more appeals of his death sentence because of the pain it would cause his victims' families. "I understand why they hurt," Ross said. "I've been trying for 10 years to stop this. Hopefully in 28 days I'll be able to stop it, and that's my goal."

A British computer specialist was indicted Wednesday on charges he used U.S.-based Web sites to recruit al-Qaida, Taliban and Chechen fighters and outfit them with gas masks, night-vision goggles and camouflage gear. Babar Ahmad, 30, was arrested in London in August and has been held there for extradition to the United States. Wednesday's indictment accuses him of supporting terrorism, conspiring to kill Americans and laundering money. Ahmad allegedly ran several sites, including Azzam.com, which investigators say was used to promote holy war and funnel money to terrorists. (AP) - The state Senate approved a budget plan Wednesday that would make Connecticut the only state to impose a special tax on millionaires. The $13.5 billion budget plan approved by the Democrat-controlled Senate includes a two-year, 1-percent surcharge on people who earn more than $1 million per year.
