A UKIP parliamentary candidate who said in a Facebook post that Israel should "kidnap" US President Barack Obama has been replaced by his party. Jeremy Zeid, who was standing in Hendon, said President Obama should be "locked up" by the Israelis for "leaking state secrets". He was referring to the declassifying of documents on Israel's secret nuclear programme. Mr Zeid also said Israel should "do an Eichmann" on President Obama.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The Arkansas House of Representatives passed a "religious freedom" bill similar to the controversial measure in Indiana. The bill now heads to Gov. Asa Hutchinson's desk for signing into law. Hutchinson said that he would approve the measure if it made it to his office, CBS News affiliate KTVH in Little Rock reported. The Arkansas version of the bill -- HB 1228 -- would prevent state and local governments from infringement on someone's religious beliefs unless there were a "compelling" reason. Like the Indiana law, opponents say it would foster discrimination against the gay and lesbian...

Barack Obama on Tuesday shortened the prison sentences of nearly two dozen drug convicts, including eight serving life in prison, in an act the White House said continues Obama's push to make the justice system fairer by reducing harsh sentences that were handed down under outdated guidelines. The effort could lead Obama to grant clemency more often as his second and final term in office winds down. Neil Eggleston, the White House counsel, said many of the 22 people whose federal sentences will be cut short by Obama's action would already have served their time and paid the debt they...

Ted Cruz, a Republican junior senator from Texas, announced last week he would be running for the presidency of the U.S. before even forming an exploratory committee, which is a common first step in a campaign. Cruz has drawn the ire of several Republicans and Democrats alike on Capitol Hill due to his strident style, brash confidence and uncompromising political views — despite the fact he is still in his first term. With his announcement, Cruz has immediately differentiated himself from any other Republican candidate in a very deep field. Other major candidates such as Scott Walker, Marco Rubio, Rick...

If the 19th century English philosopher George Henry Lewes heard Senator Ted Cruz speak as he did Monday at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, then Senator Cruz could convincingly be said to be the inspiration for Mr. Lewes’ quote that “originality is independence, not rebellion; it is sincerity, not antagonism.” Senator Cruz announced at Liberty that he is seeking the Republican nomination for president. Our story does not end there. Cruz’s speech touched on more than campaign promises or party platform. It touched — focused — on the senator’s beliefs, deeply felt, on government’s limited role in relation to man,...

Speaking in New Hampshire last Friday night, Ted Cruz recalled a snarky aside written by New York Times columnist David Brooks, identifying Cruz and Karl Marx as the two people who "believe that power can be wielded directly by the masses." Being lumped in with Marx is a bit unusual for him, Cruz noted, but he's thrilled to be dismissed as a wacky populist by an Establishment shill like Brooks. Cruz, the junior Senator from Texas and first official Republican presidential candidate for 2016, was keynoting the New England Freedom Conference, put on by Young America's Foundation, a far-right group...

Politico reports, “Ted Cruz thunders about what he calls a ‘fundamentally unserious’ U.S. defense policy, but when he had a chance to weigh in during Senate Armed Services Committee hearings, he rarely showed up. Cruz, who announced last week he’s running for president, has the committee’s worst attendance record — by far.” His spokeswoman responds, “Sen. Cruz is deeply engaged in defense and national security issues. He never hesitates to defend American sovereignty and has established a remarkable track record leading on these matters.” Cruz later chimed in, “It’s not like I’ve been at the beach drinking a pina colada.”...

There’s a secret underneath Boycott Indiana’s false rhetoric about that state’s new religious freedom law: some of those involved also want to force you to help purchase and perform abortions. Opponents of Indiana’s law (known as “RFRA”) say it discriminates, but neither it nor any of the nation’s 20 other RFRA laws mentions sexual orientation. They just create a general standard where religious claims sometimes win and sometimes lose. To justify calling RFRA “anti-gay,” its opponents radically redefine discrimination without saying so. The ACLU campaigns to “end the use of religion to discriminate.” But read the fine print, and you’ll...

The blood is in the water. The game is afoot. And the Republicans are brawling. While Democrats are usually viewed as the undisciplined, fractious party, it is Republicans who sharpen their knives and slice each other up when the White House is at stake. The struggle is between two groups within the GOP. The establishment finally recognizes that the party must broaden its base. If the party appeals to only white, Christian conservatives, it will wind up as a regional party, capable of winning Senate and House seats but incapable of winning a national election. We must nominate a presidential...

Hillary is not going to run for president. Oh, she may put her name up. But run, as in the sense of actually campaigning, that’s another story altogether. There’s a line from the first Godfather that’s always stuck in my mind. Sollozzo (Al Lettieri), the family’s deadly enemy who has just taken an almost fatal crack at Don Corleone, bends forward and near-whispers, “Could I have gotten to him ten years ago?” That line has been running through my mind the past several weeks as the e-mail saga has unfolded: Could anybody have gotten to Hillary ten years ago? The...

Last week, Indiana Governor Mike Pence signed a state version of the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), which prevents the government from forcing people of faith to violate their religious beliefs. Nineteen other states and the federal government have similar laws that protect religious liberty. Pence and state lawmakers should have been cheered for their defense of human and constitutional rights. Instead, they’ve been lambasted by business leaders, celebrities, Seattle’s mayor, and the NCAA, some of whom have threatened the state with losses of tens of millions of dollars in business. According to critics, Pence’s signature is the equivalent...

A statement that says everything while saying nothing. NASCAR’s Brett Jewkes, senior vice president and chief communications officer, issued a statement as Pence spoke Tuesday.“NASCAR is disappointed by the recent legislation passed in Indiana. We will not embrace nor participate in exclusion or intolerance. We are committed to diversity and inclusion within our sport and therefore will continue to welcome all competitors and fans at our events in the state of Indiana and anywhere else we race.” Translation: Nothing has changed, including our willingness to do business in Indiana, but here’s some rhetoric for gay-rights activists in hopes that...

Meet Harvey Weinstein: Hollywood liberal and an anti-gun zealot. One of his latest projects (which will bomb at the box office), is a movie specifically targeting the National Rifle Association. They are going to wish they weren’t alive after I’m done with them,” Weinstein told Stern on Wednesday, referring to the NRA’s lobbying and political strength. Weinstein did not go into specifics about the project, but said that Meryl Streep was involved and that it would not be a documentary but “a big movie like ‘Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.'” “I don’t think we need guns in this country, and I...

The federal government passed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act in 1993. It was authored by Chuck Schumer, passed with nearly unanimous support from both parties, and signed by President Bill Clinton. The legislation was needed after a bad Supreme Court ruling delivered by Antonin Scalia that limited religious freedom for Native Americans who smoke peyote as part of their religion. A later Supreme Court ruling ruled that the RFRA didn’t apply to state or local governments. Twenty states passed RFRAs and another 13 have protections like the ones in RFRA. And yet when Indiana passed the legislation last week,...

The further I travel down this rabbit hole, the more I feel divorced from the good conservative people that I choose to call my own. I hold some stories back from our readers. My thought is that people have a hard enough time embracing the basic fact that our government is ( corrupt on both sides of the aisle.) If you knew how corrupt I thought these people really were, I feel like you'd rush to the phone and soon bad men would show up to haul me off in a straitjacket.Do they still do that? Regardless, today I want...

"There's something very dangerous happening in states across the country," Apple chief executive Tim Cook warned Monday in a Washington Post opinion piece against Indiana's newly passed Religious Freedom Restoration Act. It matters not to the corporate big shot that President Bill Clinton signed a federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act in 1993 (which current House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi supported) or that then-Illinois state Sen. Barack Obama voted for a similar law in 1998. It was one thing for Democrats to support religious freedom when there was no downside to standing up for the devout. Today there could be a...

In what has been called the “Catholic moment” in America, in the late 1940s and 1950s, Catholics were admonished from pulpits to “live the faith” and “set an example” for others. Public lives were to reflect moral beliefs. Christians were to avoid those “living in sin.” Christians who operated motels and hotels did not rent rooms to unmarried couples. Fast forward to 21st-century America. Indiana just enacted a law, as have 19 other states, to protect the rights of religious people to practice their beliefs in how they live their lives and conduct their businesses.
