Swarthmore student flees campus after bullying prompts safety concerns Reaction to a Swarthmore College student’s recent op-ed in the campus newspaper about the preppy liberal arts school’s need-blind admissions program has been so vicious and severe — cyberbullying, a message telling her she should have her tongue removed, a note saying “kill yourself bitch” — that the column’s author has left campus. Erin Jenson told The College Fix her Sept. 12 column in the campus newspaper, “The Admissions Office Doesn’t Care About Your Values,” argued that the same colleges encouraging students to challenge anything perceived as privilege do in fact...

The history of slavery in the United States justifies reparations for African Americans, argues a recent report by a U.N.-affiliated group based in Geneva. This conclusion was part of a study by the United Nations' Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent, a body that reports to the international organization's High Commissioner on Human Rights. The group of experts, which includes leading human rights lawyers from around the world, presented its findings to the United Nations Human Rights Council on Monday, pointing to the continuing link between present injustices and the dark chapters of American history. "In particular,...

A new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine indicated that “first-generation immigrants are more costly to governments, mainly at the state and local levels, than are the native-born, in large part due to the costs of educating their children.” An article about the report in the Washington Times observed that the academies’ “researchers tested eight scenarios, and in each of them taxpayers came out worse.” The Times noted that in the best-case scenario, the federal government came out ahead as a result of immigration, but the states showed negative fiscal effects, for a total loss of...

An Air Force colonel facing court-martial next month on multiple counts of sexual assault was found dead Sunday at his Colorado home, according to the Air Force. Col. Eugene Marcus Caughey, formerly the vice commander of the 51st Space Wing at Schriever Air Force Base, had been charged with rape, assault, adultery and other crimes. His court-martial was scheduled to begin Oct. 17 in what would have been a rare instance of the military placing a senior officer on trial for sexual assault. Officials at Peterson Air Force Base said Caughey, 46, was found dead at his off-base residence in...

According to a report on CNN last night, the Clinton campaign has given up on the crucial bell-weather state of Ohio. Trump took the lead in Ohio 2 weeks ago, and now leads by 5 points in both the Bloomberg and Fox news poll. The critical difference? Clinton’s popularity with women is declining and Trump’s is improving. According to Tom Bevan of Real Clear Politics: “She’s up only six points with women in Nevada and up only 3 points with women in Ohio. Those numbers are not going to be good enough, especially when you consider than she is trailing...

For the first time this year, a major polling operation now says that Donald Trump has overtaken Hillary Clinton in the only race that matters – the Electoral College race. The poll was conducted between Sept. 12 and 25th. It tracks 250 likely voters in each state every week. Results are tabulated every two weeks. Although the UPI’s national poll shows Clinton with a slight lead of 2/3rds of one percent, Trump tromps the ailing former Secretary of State by an Electoral College margin of 292 to 246 with 270 needed for victory. What’s changed? Trump is now leading in...

The Charlotte rioters didn’t know whether the controversial police shooting of Keith Scott was justified, and didn’t care. They worked their mayhem — trashing businesses and injuring cops, with one protester killed in the disorder — before anything meaningful could be ascertained about the case except that the cops said Scott had a gun and his family said he didn’t. Charlotte is the latest episode in the evidence-free Black Lives Matter movement that periodically erupts in violence after officer-involved shootings. The movement is beholden to a narrative of systematic police racism to which every case is made to conform, regardless...

The president of Iran, state-sponsor of terrorism, has said he is expecting more money from the United States in addition to the $1.7 billion in cash that President Barack Obama has already paid the Shiite Islamic Republic as part of his nuclear deal. “There are still considerable sums of money in the United States that belong to our nation. And we’re currently conducting conversations and various dialogues in order to return this money to Iran. Some things that we could not agree upon, there are ways to address those in the international court system,” Shiite Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani told...

Does THIS change the story a little? Keith Scott was carrying a stolen gun when he was shot and killed during a confrontation with police in Charlotte, North Carolina, authorities have said. The gun was reported stolen after a breaking and entering, according to the police. A breaking and entering suspect told agents at the bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives that he had sold the gun to Scott, ABC 11 reported Monday. He is now in custody. Scott’s wife Rakeyia, who filmed her husband’s killing on Tuesday, had filed for a restraining order against him and had told...

The State Department is still having an issue with emails. A court ordered the agency to provide documents to the Daily Caller News Foundation by Monday night, but a technical snafu caused them to miss the deadline. The file, the department explained, was just too big. The size of the file attached to the email, however, exceeded the maximum file size allowed for the mobile device used by counsel for State, and thus transmission of the email did not complete.SeeExhibit B. Counsel for State was unaware of this fact until this morning, September 27, 2016. State sent a follow-up email at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday with...

Apropos of last night's debate: If Hillary Clinton loses to Donald Trump, Barack Obama will be a loser as well. Big Time. And that is because President Trump will most likely do to Obama what Obama did to George Bush, and that is to kick a man when he is down. It is a trend Obama started when he became president. It now may come back to haunt him. You will recall that when Obama became president eight years ago, he used outgoing President George Bush as a punching bag, not occasionally, but all the time. Everything was Bush's fault....
