RICHMOND -- A new Virginia law that bars illegal aliens from receiving state-funded benefits goes into effect tomorrow. The law restricts anybody without a Social Security number from receiving Medicaid, temporary assistance for needy families, and help from several other state and local programs. Supporters say the measure could save the state millions. "A lot of us were saying, instead of raising taxes, why don't we start prioritizing where we're spending our existing money," said Delegate David B. Albo, Fairfax Republican, who sponsored the bill. "One of the things we found was the state was not checking for legal presence...

A new Virginia law bars undocumented immigrants from receiving state-funded benefits, the latest legislative effort to harness the state's growing illegal immigrant population. The law, effective Jan. 1, restricts anyone unable to furnish a Social Security number from tapping Medicaid, temporary assistance for needy families and a handful of other state and local programs. Proponents who debated the legislation in the General Assembly said the restrictions could save the commonwealth millions. "A lot of us were saying, instead of raising taxes, why don't we start prioritizing where we're spending our existing money," said Del. David Albo, R-Fairfax, who sponsored the...
  • Warner urged to declare emergency in illegals crisis

State legislators said yesterday that Virginia is facing an immigration crisis on par with Arizona and New Mexico and urged Gov. Mark Warner to declare an emergency like the governors of those two states did last week."If New Mexico and Arizona qualify, certainly Northern Virginia would," the Fairfax County Republican said. "The amount of money that we are spending on illegal aliens is monstrous. Any way that we can get the federal government to help us fix the problem they've created I'm sure would go over 100 percent with 100 percent approval from the caucus."

A Northern Virginia anti-gun "Republican" legislator, Dave Albo, is trying to raise taxes through the back door on Virginians. And guess why he's doing it? To fill his own pockets! He wants to increase the fines for speeders and other serious traffic offense by hundreds of dollars. Why? I guess he wants to increase the size of the nanny state exponetially. The Virginia Club for Growth is all over it: "On a personal level, for Del. Albo to be sponsoring such a bill also sets a terrible precedent. In proposing this legislation Albo is facing an apparent, if not actual,...

I just wanted to alert everybody that the most anti-gun legislator in Virginia is a Republican: Dave Albo, of Springfield, Virginia. He might as well be marching with the Million Mom March. Today he voted against allowing citizens to exercise their constitutional rights and carry concealed weapons on public property. I'm frankly outraged by this. This guy has voted time and again against gun rights. I mean - for gods sake! Even some Democrats support gun rights in Virginia. I can't believe this guy...we've got a 30 vote majority in the House and he can't find the will to support...
