Defense Secretary Robert Gates stated today that one of the main reasons why President Barack Obama has decided not to release death photos of terrorist Osama bin Laden is because he fears that the pictures will be photoshopped and used against the United States. Mr. Gates stated that the President believes that, should the photos be released, they will quickly be "misused" in order to drive anti-American sentiment in the Middle East and elsewhere. On 8 October 1967, the Bolivian government, with the help of the CIA, captured the communist terrorist Ernesto "Che" Guevara. Bolivian President Rene Barrientos ordered that Guevara was to be executed immediately and this order was carried out the day following Guevara's capture. "There are sensitivities here in terms of the appropriateness of releasing photographs," said White House spokesman Jay Carney, who added that the photos of Bin Laden's corpse "could be inflammatory."
