WASHINGTON — Sen. Mitt Romney took issue with the suggestion that children develop better in an environment outside their homes rather than being reared by one or both parents during a Senate committee hearing Tuesday. The Utah Republican said Democratic proposals on child care seem to have "significant bias" toward getting women and men into the labor force as opposed to saying it's acceptable for a parent to stay home. "It does seem like the administration strongly prefers getting kids out of the home and getting both parents into the workforce," he said.

It says a lot about Donald Trump that his children are such delightful people, even though they were raised with the "disadvantage" of being very wealthy, Ben Carson said Thursday. "All of the Trump children are absolutely delightful people. And I think that speaks volumes about the man," he said, referring to the GOP nominee. "Anybody who can raise children, particularly in the environment they came up in, which I think is a disadvantaged environment. Because I know a lot of people who are very rich and their kids are so spoiled, and I think it's a disadvantage. I really...

The administration claims the move is a step toward "fixing our broken immigration system," by ensuring high-tech students can put their skills to use in the U.S., not overseas. But it's also raised concern that the change could hurt U.S. job-seekers by making them compete against more foreign graduates, at a time when unemployment is...

Like many Americans, Kenyatta Rowel is not entirely comfortable with racial preferences in college admissions. The University of Maryland Eastern Shore sophomore from Annapolis says he'd prefer affirmative action in higher education to be based on socioeconomic disadvantage rather than race. < SNIP > Giving an admissions edge to poor college applicants is appealing because it would seem to accomplish the double goal of increasing racial diversity - because many African-Americans and Latinos are clustered low on the economic ladder - while also helping poor white students who are left behind in race-based affirmative action. But a series of studies...
