Nestled in the heart of Front Royal , VA, The Naughty Girls Donut Shop made national news when it opened several month ago in a local shopping center. It was a dream come true for 16-year-old Tiana Ramos, who has a talent for baking sophisticated pastries and an affection for the glamour of 1950s pin-up girls. Armed with a business plan and a commitment from investors who also believed in her dream, Tiana opened Naughty Girls Donut Shop. It was a triumph of youthful enthusiasm and dogged determination. The name of the shop has proven to be controversial, however, and...

While Burger King moves forward with its bid to buy Tim Hortons for $11.4 billion and its relocation to be closer to the constitutional monarchy up north, the Canadian chain has taken a very deep dive into fast-food mash-up territory with this “Buffalo Crunch” doughnut, now being served exclusively at the New York State Fair through Monday. It consists of a pull-apart yeast doughnut that’s dunked in Buffalo sauce and crusted with crushed-up chips. …

Bradley Hardison is charged with two counts of felony breaking and entering and misdemeanor injury to real property.A North Carolina man who beat police officers in a doughnut-eating contest got his just desserts the next day after they realized that he was a wanted man. Bradley Herbert entered the cuisine-eating competition at the Elizabeth City Police Department's National Night Out Against Crime and won it by polishing off eight doughnuts in two minutes. The field that the 24-year-old defeated included local police officers and firefighters. "I did congratulate him," Lt. Max Robeson told WTKR. "Good for him. He can eat...

A curious 4-year-old in Monroe, Conn., is going to have to get his doughnuts elsewhere after asking a Doughnut Inn customer the wrong question. Justin Otero's mother says the boy asked the customer if she had a baby in her belly and was told no. "My response was, 'Oh my goodness, I'm so embarrassed, I'm so sorry,'" the mom tells WFSB. But she says that while the customer was forgiving, managers refused to allow her in the store with her son, saying, "'He's not allowed in here, he's rude.'" The mom says she plans to get doughnuts somewhere else with...

I mentioned two days ago the decision of schools to ban birthday cupcakes. Michelle Obama is essentially fighting with students to get them to change what they eat. But what is missing from this story is the proper context. The fact is that our bad eating habits are getting encouraged by taxpayer money. In fact, the government arguably changed our dietary habits to their present behavior. The Foundation for Economic Education came out with an article yesterday about dealing with “food deserts.”
  • KRISPY KREME DONUT SUNDAES ARE ONLY IN JAPAN, YOUR DREAMS

Because international brands are straight-up stealing our ideas left and right, Krispy Kreme is now serving up blueberry and caramel donut sundaes in Japan, and in Japan only. While we technically have our own donut sundaes stateside, they're pretty sad compared to these carefully sculpted Tokyo treats, which feature an Original Glazed Krispy Kreme donut and vanilla ice cream. The blueberry option has granola and blueberry sauce for the illusion of health, while its caramel counterpart makes no bones about what it is, which is a donut covered in ice cream, almonds, "salty caramel popcorn", and caramel sauce. Sadly, the...
  • BREAKING: NJ Chris Christie Changing Party Affiliation to Democrat

    04/13/2014 5:45:09 PM PDT · by Lazamataz · 52 replies
Stunning a crowded convention, NJ Chris Christie announced to a group of supporters with former President Clinton that he would seek reelection in 2014 as a democrat. The move comes after months of odd behavior from the former NJ republican. Tensions have been mounting between the NJ Governor and the GOP. At this year’s CPAC Convention, which hosts some of the greatest names in the conservative party Christie was denied entrance. Christie struck a sour note with conservatives for palling up with Obama during Hurricane Sandy. The bill to send money to victims was full of pork and republicans wanted...

Mr. Norris, with Washington and Colorado recently legalizing pot smoking and their football teams (Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos) being in the Super Bowl, some have asked whether there is going to be added marijuana use during this year’s Super Bowl. And President Barack Obama recently said that he doesn’t think marijuana is as dangerous as alcohol. What do you think, Chuck? Is it? – “Trying to Make Sense of Sensimilla” in Seattle I understand the arguments for the legalization of marijuana: It can generate tax revenue. It can reduce illegal supply and demand. It can strip power from cartels...
  • Donut Regulation as Serious as Syria?

We recently posted Julie Borowski’s video entitled, “Get the Government Off My Donuts.” Sure, it sounds silly and stupid in light of stories about the turmoil in Syria or the persecution in North Korea. Donuts…seriously? Who cares? How shallow is that! Well, despite Julie’s silly donut scarfing demonstration and the light-hearted title, the point of her video wasn’t actually about getting the government away from her donuts. It was about freedom. Nothing shallow about freedom. The FDA taking steps to ban transfats in food doesn’t seem important in light of what’s happening in places like Syria, but the root of Syria’s...

New Jersey governor Chris Christie, a Republican, is on his way to winning big in his bid for reelection Tuesday, and there's already talk he may be on his way to running for president in three years. Speaking to CNN's Jake Tapper, Christie argued he's not a moderate as he's sometimes portrayed. "I'm a conservative," Christie told Tapper. "I've governed as a conservative in this state, and I think that's led to some people disagreeing with me in our state, because it's generally a left-of-center, blue state."

DALLAS — So you think you make something people will like, then you start selling them from the back of your car and business booms. Customers are hypnotized by your creations. Of course, we are talking donuts! Here’s the “hole” story of Hypnotic Donuts & Biscuits. It brings new meaning to window shopping as the little six-year-old patron cruises the donut case. “What are we looking for here?" the donut man asks. James St. Peter and his wife, Amy, opened a donut shop even after finding out that the Dallas-Fort Worth area already has 900 donut shops. “So we thought...

Sideshows are rearing their ugly head once again in Oakland. Take a look at this video shot in the aftermath of a crash during a West Oakland sideshow, showing a hostile crowd accosting a woman they believe was responsible. (Warning: profane language) Oakland police said the incident happened about 4:15 a.m. Saturday on the 2500 block of Middle Harbor Road at the Port of Oakland. A woman in a burgundy Mazda apparently was following too closely as the driver of a white Chevy Camaro was “doing donuts,” or spinning around in circles, which is typical sideshow behavior

One of the world’s leading human rights groups is upset over a new “bizarre and racist” donut ad airing in Thailand claiming Americans would “howl” with outrage if we saw it. Which we won’t because Dunkin’ Donuts Thailand and America are separate organizations. Dunkin’ Donuts in Thailand has launched a new ad for its “Charcoal Donut” that features “a female model with dark skin and bright pink lips,” the Daily Mail reported. The entire city of Boston and most of its surrounding neighborhoods are on lockdown. Authorities have been all but begging residents to stay home and businesses to stay closed. And yet reports started to creep up that there was an exception: Dunkin' Donuts. The chain is an institution in the Boston area (it was founded 10 miles away), and Buzzfeed has now confirmed that four of its locations are open in Watertown, the area police are most heavily searching for bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Around noon, the chain released a statement explaining itself: "At the direction of authorities, select Dunkin'...

Yesterday the Do Or Dine owners—who introduced us to the controversial Foie Gras Doughnut not too long ago—came by our office for a little taste test. On the other side of the table: the Faux Gras Doughnuts, created by the Dun-Well vegan doughnut company, and filled with The Regal Vegan's Faux Gras. Despite having put out beer and knives for our guests, the meeting was cruelty-free—in fact, it was very amicable! (The Do or Dine gentleman even offered to fill the vegan doughnuts with their jelly.) Gothamist staff indulged in the treats, and here are some thoughts from those who...

A Kingsport motorcyclist — allegedly spotted traveling Stone Drive at more than 120 mph — has been arrested after trying to elude police and being struck by a squad car. The collision occurred at approximately 10 p.m. Thursday night on Bloomingdale Pike, at a back entrance to Dunkin' Donuts. Police say the rider was attempting to swerve into the parking lot when hit by the cruiser, which was traveling approximately 5 mph. A Kingsport arrest report states the incident began approximately two miles away. An officer in the parking lot of an East Stone Drive business reportedly spotted a motorcycle...

(CNN) -- After a six-week operation dubbed "Extra Sugar," police determined that a New Jersey donut shop employee was offering more than coffee and sweets to her customers and arrested her on a prostitution-related charge, police said Tuesday. Melissa Redmond, an overnight worker at a Dunkin' Donuts shop on U.S. Route 46 in Rockaway, was arrested because she was offering sexual services for money, according to Detective Sgt. Kyle Schwarzmann of the Rockaway Borough Police Department. The original anonymous tip came in early June and police started surveillance on Redmond, 29, soon after, according to Schwarzmann.
