For the past few weeks I have been hearing the SAME drum beat in my head whenever I read or watch stories about Donald Trump. Specifically about Trump victories as he vanquishes all opponents in his path as he surges forward. At first the sounds of the drums were infrequent but with each passing day as I either read more Trump stories or watched stories about him on TV, the distinctive drum beat became more ubiquitous until now I can't read nor watch any Trump story without that drum tune in my head. So what is the tune? It sounded...

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - Remo Belli, a musician who pioneered the synthetic drumhead in time to help a generation of rock-and-rollers shape their sound and then saw it become standard on kits across genres, has died in California. His death was announced in a statement by Remo Inc., the California-based drum manufacturer that Belli founded and ran for six decades. Belli was 88 and had been treated for pneumonia at a Pasadena hospital, where he died April 25, said Sue Kincade, Remo's advertising manager. Belli was a young professional drummer in the 1950s, backing singer Anita O'Day and others, when...

COLUMBIA, SC — Drummers from the Columbia Drum Circle began beating rhythms that reverberated Sunday over the bustling of Gervais and Main streets, while nearby children made instruments out of recycled materials and got their faces painted. A crowd from the community and local civic groups gathered Sunday afternoon on the State House steps for the inaugural “Peace Day at the State House” rally sponsored by the Carolina Peace Resource Center. Lizzie Utset, an intern with the peace center who organized the event, said it was hard work bringing all of the groups and people together from Columbia to Charleston...

A native Washingtonian who played drums for some of the greatest singers in history needs a prosthetic leg to play the way he used to play. Woody Woodson lives in the same Northeast home he’s been in for more than 50 years, most of which he spent playing for artists like the Temptations, the Four Tops, the Supremes and Steve Wonder. He spent years on the road with Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye. One of the biggest hits he collaborated on was the Isley Brothers’ “It’s Your Thing.” Grammy-winning musician Steve Jordan, who plays for Eric Clapton and...

Ringo Starr looks at a photograph of his young self and laughs. ‘We didn’t know what was ahead of us. You never do. We didn’t think it would last.’ The black-and-white image shows the Beatles in suits in the early Sixties, waiting to appear on a television show. He’s not sure which one. Paul is whistling, George is distracted, John is wide-eyed and Ringo is staring at the camera, his feet up on a seat. In the picture (below) he looks the most assured, by far. ‘Even Paul thought, “Well, I’ll probably end up as a writer.” So did John....

HYDERABAD, India (Reuters) - Tax defaulters in southern India are being forced to face the music after city authorities hired drummers to play non-stop outside their homes until they pay up. After many residents ignored repeated demands to settle overdue property taxes. authorities in a city in Andhra Pradesh state have sent 20 groups of drummers to play outside offenders' houses for the past week. "They put up a spectacle outside the houses of defaulters, draw them out and explain their dues to them and the need to clear it at the earliest," said T.S.R. A METAL drum found in Iraq that initially tested positive for a nerve agent could in fact contain rocket fuel, a US expert has said. Two mobile chemical laboratories found nearby might also have been used for mixing the fuel and not making banned weapons, the chief chemical weapons officer of the 4th Infantry Division added. Further tests on the tan 209-litre drum were expected in the coming days, said Lieutenant Colonel Valentin Novikov. Initial tests showed that the contents of the barrel tested positive for the nerve agent cyclosarin and a blister agent that could be a precursor of...

U.S. Said to Find Iraq Nerve Agent Traces By LOUIS MEIXLER, Associated Press Writer BAIJI, Iraq - U.S. troops found about a dozen 55-gallon drums in an open field near this northern Iraqi town, and initial tests indicated one of them contained a mixture of a nerve agent and mustard gas, an American officer said Sunday. Lt. Col. Ted Martin of the 10th Cavalry Regiment said troops went to the site at midnight Friday after having been alerted by U.S. Special Forces teams, which were suspicious because of the presence of surface-to-air missiles guarding the area. A chemical team checked...

U.S. soldiers on Saturday found 14 barrels of chemicals in a vast weapons storage area in north-central Iraq, and three initial tests indicated that they contained a deadly mixture of cyclosarin nerve agent and mustard gas. Previous finds of suspect chemicals in Iraq have turned out to be false alarms, and a Pentagon spokeswoman Saturday said defense officials had no conclusive evidence that the barrels contained chemical weapons. She said samples from the barrels would be sent to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland for further testing, a process that could take a week. An international team of chemical weapons...
