A six-year-old boy somehow climbed inside a weather balloon in Ft. Collins, Colorado -- and now the balloon is careening out of control with the boy stuck inside.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - A flying saucer-shaped helium balloon drifted away from a home in Fort Collins, Colorado Thursday. However, contrary to earlier fears, there was not a 6-year-old boy inside.

Update 3:39 p.m.: The balloon has touched down. Emergency vehicles are on the scene. But the boy is not in the balloon — it's empty. The Denver Post reports: "Officials and the boy's family had said he was in the gondola when it went airborne this morning; it's unclear what happened to the boy."

Rescuers are tracking and chasing a "homemade flying saucer" that is in flight with a 6-year-old, by himself, on board. The incident started this morning in Fort Collins when the boy got into the balloon-like device, which was built by an adult, and it came loose from a tether, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
