The surprise commencement speaker at the Florida high school where a gunman killed 17 people in February was Jimmy Fallon, who said he wanted to thank the students personally for their courage and bravery. “Most commencement speakers get up and talk in future tense: `You will succeed. You will make us proud, you will change the world,’ the “Tonight Show” host said. “But I’m not going to say that, because you’re not the future. You’re the present. … You are succeeding, you are making us proud.” Fallon joked about his own less-than-stellar high school performance — it took having to...

MSNBC continues to maintain its red wall of silence on Joy Reid. But the ugliness just keeps rising. The old blog posts by the progressive personality reek of every bigotry that the left claims to condemn. And, as Bre Payton at the Federalist notes, there's even a call to ethnically cleanse Jews from Israel. Iran's pres strikes again Says "move Israel to Europe" "You believe the Jews were oppressed, why should the Palestinian Muslims have to pay the price? You oppressed them, so give a part of Europe to the Zionist regime so they can establish any government they want....

The family of a man who was shot dead by a US sheriff's deputy have been awarded $4 (£3) in damages following a wrongful death lawsuit. Gregory Vaughn Hill Jr, 30, was shot through his garage door in 2014 by the deputy in St Lucie County, Florida, in response to a noise complaint. He was found with an unloaded gun, but whether he was holding it is disputed. A jury ruled that no excessive force was used and Mr Hill was responsible for his own death because he was drunk. A judge asked the jury to decide if Mr Hill's...

During the chaos of the Parkland school shooting, paramedics from Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department were desperate to go inside the building where students were wounded and dying. Michael McNally, deputy chief for Coral Springs fire-rescue, asked six times for permission to send in specialized teams of police officers and paramedics, according to an incident report he filed after the Feb. 14 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting that left 17 people dead. But every time McNally asked to deploy the two Rescue Task Force teams — each made up of three paramedics and three to four law enforcement officers —...

Newman and his partner, Deputy Edward Lopez, had reportedly knocked on Hill's garage door to investigate the noise complaint. When the garage door eventually opened, Hill was standing by it with his left hand on the door and his right hand by his side. It is still unclear what exactly happened in the seconds that unfolded, as Newman drew his gun and fired four times toward Hill as the garage door started to go down. However, when a SWAT team arrived, they found Hill dead. He had been shot three times, including once in the head. Toxicology reports had shown...

Sears has identified another 100 unprofitable stores. It will begin closing sales at 72 of these stores "in the near future." The retailer said it continues to evaluate its store fleet and will make further adjustments "as needed and as warranted." Sears Holdings said Thursday it will be closing more than 70 additional stores in 2018 as its sales continue to erode, dropping more than 30 percent in the latest quarter from a year ago. The retailer has identified 100 unprofitable stores in total, and it will begin closing sales at 72 of these stores "in the near future." "We...

Retiring Rep. Tom Rooney (R-Fla.) criticized the National Rifle Association (NRA) for refusing to accept “reasonable” gun control regulations in an interview published Wednesday. Rooney, a gun owner and Second Amendment advocate, told Sarasota Magazine that he thought raising the minimum age for assault rifle purchases was a “reasonable” measure. “The problem is with the political arm of the NRA,” Rooney said. “I don’t know in the last 10 years whether there has been any compromise with guns by the NRA.”The NRA said in a February statement to the Washington Post that raising the age for purchasing assault rifles to...

The Republican Party made clear on Tuesday that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s comments on the violent MS-13 gang will haunt Democrats until the midterm elections. President Trump recently prompted an angry backlash by members of the media and his political opponents by referring to MS-13 members as “animals,” but the Republican Party is betting that American voters are on his side. Its new campaign ad titled “Democrats’ Midterm Message? MS-13 killers aren’t so bad” tallied over 52,000 views in less than six hours. “When the president of the United States says these aren’t people, these are animals, you have...

. President Trump campaigned in Tennessee on Tuesday night for Republican Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn, blasting her Democratic opponent as a “tool” of congressional Democratic leaders and a supporter of Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid. Speaking at a boisterous rally in Nashville, Mr. Trump criticized Democrat Phil Bredesen, a former two-term governor, as “very liberal.” “He’s an absolute, total tool of Chuck Schumer and the MS-13 lover, Nancy Pelosi,” Mr. Trump said, referring to the Democratic leaders of the Senate and House. “They don’t want the wall, they want open borders. They’re more interested in taking care of criminals than taking...

A move that would send a clear message to Iran. Last week, House Foreign Affairs Committee Member, Congressman Ron DeSantis (R.,-Fla.), proposed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act recognizing the Golan Heights as an integral part of Israel thereby validating Israel’s 1981 annexation of the territory. Though non-binding, the declarative resolution, which would have likely passed if brought to the House floor for a full vote, would have sent a strong message to the world, but chiefly Israel's enemies, that after eight years of relentless hostility from the previous American administration, the US-Israel alliance is back on track...

. In the months since Florida Gov. Rick Scott, a Republican, announced he's running for Senate, he has already spent $8 million on advertising against his Democratic opponent, Sen. Bill Nelson. (Outside groups have spent another $4 million or so on his behalf.) Polling is sparse, but one reason all surveys are close and the most recent one shows Scott in the lead has to be his unceasing and relentless release of new ads that define himself and attack Nelson. The attacks are all the more effective because they are not savage or cruel, but gentle and respectful. Scott is...

A Florida police K-9 officer is facing disciplinary action after he posted a disturbing comment on Facebook in a thread about a "die-in" protest at a supermarket. Information about the protest at Publix, where nationally-known Parkland student David Hogg and other students outlined 17 bodies in the parking lot, was posted on a Coral Springs/Parkland Facebook page, the Sun-Sentinel reports. Brian Valenti, who has been with Coconut Creek Police Department for 23 years, wrote "hope some old lady loses control of her car in that lot" under a photo of Hogg, who organized the event.

In mid-February of 2014, two 17-year-old Marjory Stoneman Douglas students assaulted a 14-year-old baseball player near the high school stadium. They kicked the boy, a police report said, held him to the ground and simulated a sexual assault through the teen's clothing with a baseball bat. One of the assailants was Broward Sheriff Scott Israel's son, Brett Israel, according to the incident report. When the attack was reported to authorities, Brett Israel and the other 17-year-old, Anthony Broderick, were not arrested. They were suspended from the Parkland high school for three days based on the school's conclusion that they had...
