FRESNO, Calif. -- Elections officials in Fresno County say hundreds of thousands of voters are getting ballots that incorrectly describe the ballot measure that would suspend the state's greenhouse gas emissions law. The county's 380,000 voters are being issued ballots that characterize Proposition 23 as requiring "major polluters" to report and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A Sacramento judge threw out that wording earlier this year, and ordered the language to be changed from "major polluters" to "major sources of emissions."

"8:40 a.m.: Witnesses said the deputy was shot twice in the upper torso and was bleeding heavily. Meanwhile, sheriff's deputies have brought in an armored vehicle."

The Fresno County District Attorney's Office filed charges on Friday against a deputy coroner, alleging that he stole property from at least one dead person. Joe Tiger is accused of grand theft and embezzlement in an incident that allegedly took place last March.

Fresno County sheriff's officials began releasing inmates from the downtown jail Tuesday as they prepare to close two floors and reduce the overall population by 800 inmates later this month.

Even though a federal agent investigating former Fresno County sheriff's Sgt. Ron Vaughn Jr. for possession of child pornography made "serious mistakes" in his search warrant affidavit, the errors were not intentional and not meant to mislead a federal magistrate, a judge ruled Friday.

An investigation continued Saturday into the shooting of a Fowler farmer in front of his house by a Fresno County sheriff's deputy who apparently went to the wrong address to check on a 911 call. Donnie Srabian, 61, who was hit once in the abdomen, was reported in serious but stable condition at University Medical Center. Sheriff's Lt. Fred Lopez said a deputy was dispatched to check a 911 hang-up call that was received at 8:29 p.m. Friday. The system showed the call had been made from a residence at 7297 E. Walter Ave., just east of the city limits...

Aug 29, 2006 - Shots have been fired near Fresno State University, around the area of Cedar and Barstow. There are reports that an Officer has been shot, but it is not confirmed at this point.
