The Wisconsin Assembly Republican leader who hired a former state Supreme Court justice to investigate the 2020 election fired him Friday, after the former justice and former President Donald Trump backed the lawmaker’s opponent. Speaker Robin Vos firing of Michael Gableman ends a 14-month probe that began with Vos voicing full confidence in Gableman’s abilities. Vos, in a statement first provided to The Associated Press on Friday, said Gableman’s reports “clearly showed concerns and problems with the 2020 election.”

Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman withdrew the motion he filed late last week asking the court to reconsider its denial of Rindfleisch’s Fourth Amendment appeal. Madison - State Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman is sticking by his story that Justice Ann Walsh Bradley hit him on the back of the head, but said Thursday it happened a year later than he originally claimed. Bradley said in a strongly worded denial Thursday that she never struck Gableman. Three other justices have said they did not witness the alleged incident. The other two justices have not said whether they saw it happen. The political action committee of the National Rifle Association spent more than $73,000 this week on mailings in support of Michael Gableman's campaign for Supreme Court. Gableman is challenging incumbent Supreme Court Justice Louis Butler in Tuesday's election. According to documents filed with the Government Accountability Board, the NRA Political Victory Fund spent more than $14,000 on postcards and more than $59,000 on postage on March 27. MADISON, Wis. -- Michael Gableman had 51 percent of Tuesday's vote compared with 49 percent for Butler with 93 percent of precincts reporting. Butler is the first incumbent justice to lose a re-election bid since 1967. He joined the court in 2004 after being appointed by Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle.
