  • Gallup Poll: Belief in God Among U.S. Adults Dips to All-Time Low

Belief in God among U.S. adults sank to an all-time low this year, according to recent data from a Gallup survey. According to the survey, most U.S. adults — 81 percent — believe in God. But while that figure seems high, it is actually the lowest percentage ever reported in this survey. Up until 2011, over 90 percent said they believed in God, but the number has continued to drop, now down eight points from the 89 percent who expressed belief in God in 2016. The previous low was set in 2014, when 86 percent said they believed in God.

More than double the number of Americans in the U.S. say they identify as LGBTQ than they did a decade ago, a trend led by Gen Z, results from a new Gallup poll revealed this week. A record 7.1 percent of Americans identify as straight or heterosexual, lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, a percentage which is up from 3.5 percent of Americans in 2012. It has been steadily increasing since the poll began. The poll also found that 86.3 percent of Americans say they are straight or heterosexual, while 6.6 percent did not offer their orientation. Gallup estimates from these...

A new Gallup poll shows the cratering view the American people have taken of the U.S. economy under President Joe Biden. The Big Three evening news networks buried it for nearly a week. The results of the Gallup survey — released Feb. 2 — of 811 U.S. adults found that a mere 33 percent are satisfied with the state of the U.S. economy. That’s a 10 percentage-point free fall from the same survey conducted in 2021 when 43 percent of Americans were satisfied. The new statistic is also a 35-point drop from the 68 percent of Americans in 2020 who...

Joe Biden's policies since he took office have allowed inflation to surge in the United States, with gasoline prices up by more than a dollar a gallon across wide regions, food more costly and even consumer items demanding higher prices because of those increases in transportation costs. Now a new poll from Gallup confirms what consumers already know all too well: it's causing hardship for them. The poll revealed that Biden's inflation is causing "hardship" for nearly half of the nation's population – 45% to be exact. And it hits hardest at those who can least afford it, the poll...
  • Joe Biden's approval ratings are worse than every recent president -- except 1 -- at this stage

(CNN) Roughly nine months into his presidency, Joe Biden is on the verge of writing his name into the history books -- and not in a good way. The latest polling from Gallup pegs the President's approval at just 42%, the lowest of his term to date and the second lowest of any president Gallup has measured at this moment in their presidency over the last almost five decades. Here's a look at Biden's approval in comparison to his predecessors in Gallup polling (all of this data comes courtesy of the terrific Gallup Presidential Approval Center): * Biden 42% (272...

President Biden approval rating is leveling off at 42 percent, according to Gallup poll released Friday. The survey, conducted Oct. 1-19, found that 52 percent disapprove of the job Biden is doing as president, while a separate six percent had no opinion. The poll found Biden’s approval rating essentially holding steady after sliding to 43 percent in September, which was the first time Gallup recorded a majority disapproved of Biden’s job performance. At that time, Biden was facing bipartisan criticism for his handling of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Six-point decline in approval since June... Before this month, his ratings had not shown meaningful variation during his time in office... The new rating is from a July 6-21 Gallup poll, which also finds that 45% of U.S. adults disapprove of Biden's performance and 5% do not have an opinion. It comes at a time when U.S. progress in fighting the coronavirus has stalled, with vaccination rates slowing and case levels now rising. The economic recovery continues, with unemployment declining and stock market values near record highs. But consumers are paying higher prices for gas and other goods. Biden has...

(CNN)Poll of the week: A new Gallup poll finds that 59.2% of Americans say they're thriving. Additionally, 73% of Americans said they experienced enjoyment for a lot of the previous day.The former is the highest rating Gallup has ever recorded on the measure dating back to when it was first taken more than 13 years ago. The latter is the highest since the coronavirus pandemic began early last year. What's the point: The last year has been tough for a lot of Americans. Among other issues, the coronavirus dominated our lives, and there was a very contentious presidential election. But...

Although a record-high 89% of Americans now say the coronavirus situation is improving, most are not yet ready to declare the pandemic over in the U.S. More than twice as many think the pandemic is not yet over (71%) than think it is over (29%).Republicans are far more likely (57%) than Democrats (4%) to say the pandemic is over, but significant differences also exist by gender, age and region of the country. These findings are from Gallup's June 14-20 probability-based web panel survey, which was conducted as increased vaccinations in the U.S. resulted in declining COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths. Church is essential. That’s what many of us have said in the face of ongoing COVID restrictions. But to a growing number of Americans, church is not essential — even among those who believe.Gallup surveys the religious attitudes and practices of Americans twice each year. They roll this data into three-year chunks for comparison over time. From 1998-2000, 69% of American adults were members of a church, synagogue, temple, or mosque. By 2008-2010, that figure had dropped to 62%. And by 2018-2020, just 49%. So over one decade, a drop of 7%. Then over the next decade, a drop of...

Even with Easter less than a week away, America just isn’t into churches anymore. For the first time in eight decades, and likely ever, church membership for those in a country built on the freedom to worship has fallen below 50%. The latest Gallup survey on church membership — a data point the polling firm first asked about in 1937 — said just 47% of Americans belong to a church, synagogue, or mosque. The historic decline comes as fewer and fewer Americans are attending church, and more, especially younger adults, are claiming to have no affiliation with any religion. Every...

In a March 24 blog, Gallup CEO and Chairman Jim Clifton reported that 42 million adults in Latin America and the Caribbean said they would like to immigrate to the United States. "There are 33 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Roughly 450 million adults live in the region. Gallup asked them if they would like to move to another country permanently if they could," wrote Clifton. Twenty-seven percent of those adults said "yes." That equals roughly 120 million who want to migrate somewhere. From that group, Gallup asked them "where they would like to move." "Of those who...

Bush enjoyed just under 30 percent of Americans on his side at this same point in his presidency. One recent poll by the Pew Research Center made headlines this month. During the pandemic, arbitrary regulations and lockdowns that have forced small businesses to close and kids to remain out of school have had serious consequences. Pandemic-induced depression and suicide is a serious problem that seems to have been overlooked by many of the leaders imposing lockdowns.Meanwhile, religious worship was deemed nonessential by some Democrat leaders during the pandemic. And houses of worship were forced to remain closed, allegedly out of health concerns. According to some Democrats, you could social distance in a Walmart, restaurant, or even an airplane, but not a church or a synagogue—so they ordered them closed. But a...
