A man who tried to have his dog's body cremated was arrested Wednesday on an animal cruelty charge. Authorities said he beat the white puppy and choked it to death at his home. Shane Thompson, 20, who lives west of Boca Raton, took the dead, three-legged dog, named Moonshine, to Cole Animal Clinic in Boca Raton on Oct. 7, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. Thompson told the staff that his pet, a wolf-dog mix, had died that morning, possibly from a seizure. A veterinarian examined the dog and found it had bruised ears and a bloody nose....

President Obama will appear on a record five TV networks on Sunday -- the morning talk shows of ABC, NBC, CBS and sit for interviews with CNN and Spanish-language network Univision. Since becoming president, Obama will have done 124 print, broadcast and radio interviews, according to a tally by Maryland's Towson University -- three times more than George W. Bush did by the same point in his presidency. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs says the interviews are "an attempt by the president to speak to as many different people as he can on an issue that's as important as something...

San Francisco -- A San Francisco group billing itself as "the best in LGBT media" is claiming hundreds of public schools in California have signed up to show its films and use accompanying discussion materials. One film features a boy "coming out" by wearing his mother's bikini. Another film incorporates Native American spiritualism to cast LGBT (lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender) persons as "two-spirit" people. The films and school materials are being distributed by Youth in Motion, a partnership between Frameline and Gay-Straight Alliance Network. YIM can be accessed here (warning: may contain offensive content). The films are accompanied by...

When 22 year old Grove City College student John Gechter began modeling for the porn industry, he was warned that eventually he would be discovered by the public-at-large. Less than 24 hours after a fellow student found the online images, they were emailed all over campus and sent to the college administration. “It’s a conservative school, so juicy gossip like this would fly around campus quickly,” said Gechter in a lengthy phone interview with our newsroom. Gechter said school officials acted quickly and gave him three choices: Withdraw, be suspended, or appeal. “I didn’t like any of the three choices,”...

To Grove City College, John Gechter was a bright young student majoring in molecular biology. But to his online audience, he was Vincent DeSalvo, a baby-faced rising star in the gay pornography industry. Both worlds unexpectedly crashed into each other two weeks ago after his online persona was discovered at GCC. “A student on campus was browsing inappropriate content online and recognized me on a (pornography) Web site,” said the 22-year-old Philadelphia native. “He copied and pasted some images and sent an e-mail to some friends. GCC is a pretty small school, so the e-mail spread like wildfire.” ... Gechter...

From the La Times: "Amazon's policy of removing "adult" content from its rankings seems to be both new and unevenly implemented. On Saturday, self-published author Mark R. Probst noticed that his book had lost its ranking, and made inquiries. The response he got from Amazon's customer service explained: In consideration of our entire customer base, we exclude “adult” material from appearing in some searches and best seller lists. Since these lists are generated using sales ranks, adult materials must also be excluded from that feature." Probst is the author of a novel for young adults with gay characters set in...

(UPDATED) As if it wasn't hellacious enough working customer support for Amazon.com on Easter, the online book store's reps must now explain why gay romances (and other books) are too "adult" to rank. Straight romance like Jackie Collins and straight porn like this book of Playboy centerfolds is still ranked on Amazon. But not the homosexul stuff: Gay romance publisher Mark Probst noticed hundreds of such books lost their rankings over the past two days, including Transgressions, about a 17th century liaison between a cavalry trooper and a farmer's son, and False Colors, about a 19th century naval lieutenant attracted...

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom's administration will change its policy on issuing laudatory proclamations after a gay porn studio was honored last week without the mayor's knowledge, city officials said Friday. The official document, bearing Newsom's name, was presented by a representative of the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services to the company during its anniversary party. It...

San Francisco -- surprise! -- has surpassed Los Angeles as the capital of the gay adult entertainment industry. To the list of accolades that make San Francisco the gayest city around, you can add this: world headquarters of the gay adult entertainment industry. Over the past few years the core of that industry has shifted from Los Angeles to San Francisco, and nearly every leading studio that makes gay adult content now is centered in the city, mainly in the South of Market and lower Potrero Hill neighborhoods. The content of the industry -- that is, the movies themselves --...

Man of Steel has been missing from the movies for 19 years, and now that he's scheduled to fly...

A US film featuring actors performing real sex is a "call to arms" against President George W. Bush, the director told journalists at the Cannes film festival. "Shortbus," an explicit, largely improvised arthouse flick that includes a rendition of the American national anthem during a gay sex scene, is a direct provocation, director John Cameron Mitchell admitted. "It's a little bit of a cri de coeur to us, a little bit of a call to arms" against the prevailing conservatism, he told a media conference, adding that his country was living in "the era of Bush, which is about clamping...

The memorial is used as gallery space by Brooklyn College, which is part of the City University of New York. The city Parks Department has said that an agreement with the college stipulated that...

As an American citizen, I’m ashamed of the atrocities committed by Americans in Iraq. As a former professional soldier, I’m appalled not only by what has happened in the prisons there, but also by our military leadership. From the very top of the Pentagon down to the 320th Military Police Battalion, the brass have spent months covering up obscene behavior while placing the sole blame on Joe and Jill Grunt. The damage to our country and our just war on terrorism is already devastating. And these war crimes not only diminish the sacrifices of our gallant soldiers in Iraq and...

Behind his white collar, a Queens priest kept some dark secrets, cops said yesterday. The Rev. John Johnston, 64, was a pistol-packing padre who had a stash of Nazi memorabilia and gay porn in his Jackson Heights apartment, police said. But perhaps the most evil thing the longtime religion teacher is accused of is breaking the Seventh Commandment by stealing as much as $100,000 from a Long Island church's collection. "Even for me, it was disturbing," said a police source, who toured Johnston's den of iniquity on 35th Ave. and 78th St. The Catholic priest's secret life was exposed when...
