Rudy Giuliani has come out against feckless New York governor David Paterson's proposal to make gay marriage legal in New York. It probably wouldn't have surprised anyone if Rudy had been in favor of it, given that his positions on social issues are painted a liberal shade of blue. But Rudy supports civil unions, not gay marriage. The interesting thing is not his position, it is that he has, in the words of the New York Post, "declared war" on gay marriage. Which can only mean one thing. The mayor wants to be governor.

WASHINGTON - Rudy Giuliani has worked hard to be Mr. Nice Guy in his campaign, but that could change with his hiring of a GOP firm that has drawn fire for controversial TV ads. Giuliani yesterday named Scott Howell & Company to head his media team, and the Dallas-based company has gained a reputation as one of its party's toughest - and most successful - ad-makers. Howell drew fire last year for producing a Republican spot criticizing Democratic Tennessee Rep. Harold Ford's trip to a Playboy party that ended with an actress looking into the camera and saying, "Harold, call...

AFTER SECRET GROOM, 2 DIVORCES, RUDY WIFE SETS SIGHTS ON WHITE HOUSE IN 'HIDING': Jeffrey Ross, the first husband of Judith Giuliani, sneers at our fotog in a Tampa, Fla., parking lot. Judith Giuliani's "hidden husband" tried to go incognito as The Post caught up with him outside his girlfriend's Tampa home, refusing even to acknowledge his name....multiple sources, including former neighbors and a law-enforcement officer, confirmed his identity. Ross, 56, a bushy-mustached car lover, wore his hat backward and dark sunglasses when spotted leaving the Tampa home of his girlfriend in a convertible Mercedes with the license plate "N0...

Giuliani touts experience, but personal life may be an issue BY CRAIG GORDON Newsday Washington Bureau January 28, 2007 MANCHESTER, N.H. - Rudolph Giuliani argued yesterday that his record of cutting taxes, improving security and guiding New York through 9/11 are proof that he could do the same as president - offering his strongest signal yet that he's serious about a White House bid. [...snip] Giuliani is trying to bat down questions from top Republicans about whether his White House ambitions are a popularity-fueled dalliance or something more serious. His speech laid out a point-by-point rationale for his possible candidacy,...
  • Yes, Rudy Giuliani Is a Conservative -- And an electable one, at that.

Not since Teddy Roosevelt took on Tammany Hall a century ago has a New York politician closely linked to urban reform looked like presidential timber. But today ex–New York mayor Rudy Giuliani sits at or near the top of virtually every poll of potential 2008 presidential candidates. Already, Giuliani’s popularity has set off a “stop Rudy” movement among cultural conservatives, who object to his three marriages and his support for abortion rights, gay unions, and curbs on gun ownership. Some social conservatives even dismiss his achievement in reviving New York before 9/11. An August story on the website Right Wing...

July 13, 2006 -- BALTIMORE - In one of the strongest indications he'll seek the nation's top job, Rudy Giuliani said yesterday he's "seriously considering" a run for president. He made the comment at a fund-raiser for Maryland Gov. Robert Ehrlich's re-election bid. He said he would continue to travel the country to gauge the breadth of his support and his ability to raise the money needed for a presidential bid.

NEWS & COLUMNS By Russ Smith Rudy’s Senate-Bound And a grudge match against Hillary looms. Rudy Giuliani is never going to be president. And he’s smart enough to know that. The former mayor gave a revealing answer to Time’s Amanda Bower in the June 30 issue when she asked if he’d like to occupy the Oval Office. Giuliani said: "I’ve never really seriously sat down and thought about it. [And the Mets will win the World Series this year.] I almost think it’s arrogant, something you just don’t do unless there’s a realistic possibility." Translated, Rudy understands that a pro-choice...
