  • Christian School Raffle at Gun Show

This christian school was raffling off a number of guns and other prizes.  It was pleasant to see a school that was not caught up in the government enforced anti-second amendment indoctrination that has been common since the Clinton regime. While the top two prizes were either a vacation or a diamond ring, six of the 12 prizes were firearms, from a Tikka T3 in 300WSM to a Henry .22.   I bought a ticket on general principles, because I support independent schools and because rewarding good behavior brings more of it. This sort of cultural activity is exactly why...

As I observed the scarcity of .22 ammunition over the last year, and considered the largess that I had accumulated over the previous decades, I considered what to do with it.   I had more .22 ammunition than I would likely shoot over the course of my remaining life.   I shoot less and write more these days. I could sell it.  Prices are high.  But, my church has reminded me that generosity is a virtue.  I decided to give some of it away.   The problem is that people do not value what they get for free.   I wasn't willing to...

Girl Scouts at Gun Show It was nice to see these enterprising girl scouts at the local gun show in Yuma, Arizona.   They were quite busy, and sold a lot of product.  Their table was next the the AZCDL table where I was busy giving away free .22 ammunition.  A good time was had by all. People at gun shows tend to be a standard deviation more responsible than the average American, who tends to outclass the world population in responsibility by a good bit.   Those who attend gun shows are very responsible and polite people, more educated than...

Travis County, Texas, the home of the State Capitol, Austin, is one of the most "progressive" areas of the state.  The county commissioners have shown that they have no respect for constitutional rights, and would like to ban gun shows in the county if they could.   They attempted to use contract law to weasel around the limitations placed on them by federal and state law.  But, they have been a bit conflicted, because to do so would significantly reduce revenues to the County.   Their politically correct pandering has had a result, whether they desire it or not.  It has...

That lousy groundhog has doomed us all. As much as I'd love to write about the top groundhog-hunting techniques, the hunting pressure would just force the meteorological marmot underground and doom us to an even longer, colder winter. Even if you wanted to brave the cold and the snow to get in the woods this week, there were days when it was downright dangerous. After weeks like this, I don't need to tell you it's been a harsh winter. That's bad news for the area's outdoors enthusiasts, but great news for the folks behind the Great American Outdoor Show, which...

I continuously see claims that "we must close the gunshow loophole" in the MSM. But on FR most people seem to assume there is no such loophole. I've tried to research exactly what this loophole is supposed to be, but one side seems to take its existence as self-evident and therefore needing no definition, and the other as an equally obvious negative. I would really appreciate an explanation of what this loophole is supposed to be, and perhaps of why it isn't one.

Countless Second Amendment advocates spoke eloquently and factually about how banning gun shows does nothing to make communities safer. The gun enthusiasts who showed up in Rosemont on Friday for what was billed as the first-ever Chicagoland Gun Show didn't seem interested in gawking at antique pistols. The Miami gun-show line stretched 200 people long. Many blamed President Barack Obama. This is what the president’s gun-control talk has wrought: long waits to get into gun shows, higher firearm and ammunition prices and more paranoia. The word “Obama” was frequently mumbled, muttered, hissed, cursed at Saturday’s Southern Classic Gun and Knife Show. “Obama” was a catch-all word, a gun-rights shibboleth of sorts, a no-longer-shocking swear, a conversation starter. To Calvin Hudson, a Miami Gardens resident bargain-hunting at the Miami-Dade fairgrounds firearms bazaar, the Obama-blaming was a sign people were being fooled into paying more in a firearms market...

Crossroads of the West typically attracts about 7,000 visitors during its Ontario appearances, show owner Bob Templeton said. He expects double that amount this weekend. People with any familiarity with guns raised an amused eyebrow at American-born Al Qaeda spokesman Adam Gadahn's claim that at gun shows in the U.S., one could buy "a fully automatic assault rifle, without a background check, and most likely without having to show an identification card." Fully automatic firearms are, of course, very heavily regulated in the U.S. The inconvenient little fact of Gadahn's lie was not enough to stop various "gun control" groups from milking this new "crisis" for all it's worth (although they did eventually start to simply omit mention of the "fully automatic" part). Rabidly anti-gun...

(CN) - The 9th Circuit on Monday gave new life to a long-running dispute over a California county's ordinance that could ban gun shows on its property, finding that several U.S. Supreme Court decisions over the last six years call into question whether the ban violates the Second Amendment. More than a decade ago, Alameda County passed an ordinance that makes it a misdemeanor to bring or posses a firearm or ammunition on county property. Gun show promoters Russell and Sallie Nordyke sued the county, arguing that the ordinance was really meant to prohibit gun shows that the couple had...

The more one looks at President Obama's guest editorial in the Arizona Daily Star (as we did here Monday), and Senator Chuck Schumer's (D-NY) S. 436, the "Fix Gun Checks Act of 2011,", the more apparent it becomes that Obama's editorial was tailor-made to drum up public support for S. 436. .....Snip... It's as if Obama read through S. 436, and extracted every talking point that could be applied to the alleged shooter. The forcible citizen disarmament lobby is no doubt unhappy that Loughner didn't make his firearm purchase at a gun show, thus leaving Obama with no hook for...
  • Is onslaught of 'gun show loophole' legislation--and worse--about to begin?

In the wake of President Obama's guest editorial in the Arizona Daily Star Sunday (discussed here yesterday), calling for a "new discussion" about "gun control," some forcible citizen disarmament advocates are incensed that Obama didn't go far enough for their tastes. Washington Post blogger Greg Sargent, for example, comes just short of wailing and tearing his hair over Obama's disinterest in talking about magazine bans: Throw in the political class’s inability to address high-capacity magazines, and it’s all another mark of how decisively conservatives have won the gun control wars, and of how far off the rails the national conversation...

Today’s news coverage will tell whether the Bellevue-based Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms has a message with broader appeal than anti-gun New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his Mayors Against Illegal Guns. Call it Northeast elitism versus Northwest common sense. Their two opposing rolling billboard campaigns collide today in Chicago, and it may not be the last time these polar opposites attract attention in the same venue. This column discussed the CCRKBA campaign here, which is getting help for today’s activities from the Illinois State Rifle Association. ISRA is the group that partnered with CCRKBA’s...

There was what appears to be a shooting accident on Saturday at a gun show in Bloomington, Indiana. A rifle went off as a person attending the show put it down on a vendor’s table. The bullet hit wood and two persons were hit by flying wood. One person had small wounds from the flying wood and refused medical treatment. But, another man was hit by the flying wood and what is believed to be a .223 round. The bullet went through his arm and then struck another person. One of the victims was reported to be in critical condition...
