<p>DYERSBURG, Tenn. —Gubernatorial candidate the Rev. Ed Sanders squared off with the state NAACP president yesterday over whether he could address the group at its state conference here .</p>
<p>The verbal showdown at the altar of Salter's Chapel A.M.E. Church was so tense that the gathering of black religious and NAACP leaders broke into a spontaneous a cappella rendition of Amazing Grace to try to drown the tension. Sanders, an African-American, would not relent.</p>
