Portland, Oregon, City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty, an embattled far-left police-defunder, tends to mention her service in the U.S. Navy at the top of her personal backstory. “[R]ight out of high school, I joined the Navy, and I loved it. I was stationed in the Philippines, working in the personnel office, and then had the opportunity to be on board ship. In fact, I was one of the first women to go on board ships,” her bio on the City of Portland website reads. On that profile, it lists her as “Petty Officer Third Class, US Navy, USS Samuel Gompers...

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty is suing the Portland police union, its former president and a Portland police officer for $5 million, saying they leaked information last spring that erroneously identified Hardesty as the suspect in a hit-and-run. According to court documents obtained by KOIN 6 News, the lawsuit seeks $3 million from the Portland Police Association and $1 million each from the union’s former president, Brian Hunzeker, and Police Bureau officer Kerri Ottoman. The defendants did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the newspaper.

A Portland, Ore. politician who called the cops over an argument with her Lyft driver despite her support for the “defund the police” movement now says she acted out of a fear of “white supremacists.” City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty and her Lyft driver made dueling 911 calls during a Nov. 1 ride from hell, as Hardesty griped about everything from confusion over the pick-up location to the car’s windows being open, The Oregonian previously reported.

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler and Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty announced Monday that they want to meet with acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf and other agency leaders “immediately” to talk about how to remove federal officers from the city. A one-sentence joint statement from the city officials calls for meeting in Portland and discussing a “cease-fire” in addition to the removal of officers. A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The sought-after “end to federal occupation” comes after federal officers have been deployed to Portland on orders from...

There was a stunning war of words Wednesday between Portland City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty and the Portland Police Association president, Daryl Turner. “It is appalling to find out the Portland Police Association and the union president continues to lie to the public on a daily basis about the lack of cooperation by Portland police personnel,” Hardesty said. “If Portland does not stand up now and we as a City Council don’t hold our own police officers accountable for this egregious behavior, we will be – we will go down in history of having failed in our obligation to protect...
  • Portland City Commissioner apologizes for claiming police ‘saboteurs’ were infiltrating anti-racism protesters and setting fires as ‘justification for attacking community members’

Portland City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty apologized for claiming police are sending 'saboteurs' to infiltrate anti-racism demonstrations to start fires that have lit up the city on many of the 56 consecutive nights of protests. Hardesty's apology came amid continued civil unrest in Oregon's largest city as protesters clash with both local police and federal agents, who've struggled to quell activists. Just last night, federal agents hit Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler with tear gas after the elected official received an icy reception from protesters.
