San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane is being sued by a Las Vegas casino for failing to repay $500,000 in credit markers after gambling between playoff games last April. Court documents obtained by the Daily Mail claim that Kane, 28, received the eight markers from The Cosmopolitan valued between $20,000 and $100,000 on or around April 15, when the Sharks were in town for Games 3 and 4 of their first-round series with the Vegas Golden Knights. Kane has not repaid those markers, according to the court filing. The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is also seeking a repayment of legal...

WHEN THE PUCK finally came to rest, it was almost entirely inside Craig MacDonald's mouth. It was Dec. 21, 2007, and with 1:51 left to play, the Tampa Bay Lightning winger, working in his own zone, stepped in front of an errant, elevated slap shot that instantly cleaved a grisly, bloody and impossibly wide swath of carnage through MacDonald's lips, gums and tongue before reducing nine of his teeth to dust. The defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues visited the White House and met with President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C. Tuesday. A tradition of North American sports teams visiting the U.S. capital dates back to at least 1865 , but the practice has grown divisive under the Trump administration. The White House livestreamed the public ceremony on YouTube, which fans can watch below. President Trump complimented multiple Blues players, including Alex Steen, Jaden Schwartz and Jordan Binnington for their play during the team's championship run during his speech. He also recognized superfan Laila Anderson , who was in attendance...

No, this isn't a joke. The Flyers have installed a "rage room" at Wells Fargo Center for fans to use during games. "The rage room-style space allows fans and guests a stress-relieving outlet amid all of the game action," the Flyers said in a press release. "Through scheduled sessions that can be reserved in advance, participants wearing protective gear can smash, break, and unleash their rage upon everyday items like televisions and dishes using bats, sledgehammers, and more. Some of the items that can be disassembled might even bear the logo of an opposing team." "The concept is definitely one-of-a-kind...

This is a very unusual request. Our 8 year old granddaughter is the goalie on a roller hockey team and she is required to wear groin protection. They have these things called goalie jills, cups designed for girls, but her mother can't find one in the UK. She has Amazon Prime so it isn't like she can't search. They just aren't available. If anyone has a link to one I can get my sister to buy it and mail it to England. My wife suggested I ask here because FReepers know everything. Thanks in advance for any help.

The New York Rangers’ free-agent signing of the summer, Artemi Panarin, gave an interview where he did something unprecedented for a Russian athlete of his caliber: criticize President Vladimir Putin. “I think he no longer understands what’s right and what’s wrong. Psychologically, it’s not easy for him to judge the situation soberly. He has a lot of people who influence his decisions. But if everyone is walking around you for 20 years telling you what a great guy you are and how great a job you are doing, you will never see your mistakes.” Panarin admits that he used to...

We cleaned that title up a bit for readers with more sensitive eyes. An as-of-yet identified hockey coach has gone viral for a locker room speech in which he tells his players that kneeling for the national anthem is not an option, and anyone who disagrees can “get the f*** out.” During the speech, hockey players have gathered around in pads and uniforms, appearing to prepare for a game or practice.

“We’re not women’s soccer. We’re not the NFL! If there’s anybody here who is going to be disrespectful to either the American or the Canadian national anthem, grab your gear and get the fuck out now because you’ll never see the ice in this arena. We don’t have that problem in hockey, we’re better than that but there was no sense in wasting anybody’s time if that shit was going to happen.”

Much has been made about the fact that the Toronto Raptors won the first major league championship for a Canadian team since the Toronto Blue Jays won their second World Series in 1993 and the Montreal Canadiens won the last Stanley Cup for a Canadian team earlier that same year. The suggestion is that somehow NBA basketball will somehow become more popular in Canada than NHL hockey or major league baseball.

1st time ever! Great hockey by St. Louis.

Yes, it really happened. No, you were not dreaming. Your St. Louis Blues are four wins away from their first Stanley Cup, four wins away from that parade, four wins away from a curse cured. A tornado warning tried to stop them. Like the Sharks and the Stars and the Jets, it failed. These Blues changed coaches, changed goalies, and, in front of a sold-out Enterprise Center crowd on a stormy Tuesday night, changed perceptions of an organization that had been blocked from the Stanley Cup finals since 1970. Hey buddy, they’re still here. And there, crying in the hallway...

More than 200 of the world’s top women’s hockey players are joining forces in an effort to “create a sustainable professional league,” formally launching the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association last week. The organization, which filed articles of incorporation on Friday, will be “dedicated to promoting and supporting the creation of a single, viable women’s professional league in North America,” the law firm representing it said in an email. Formation of the union comes after players earlier this month vowed not to compete in any North American league under current conditions, which could leave elite players without a professional outlet...

12:07 PM PT -- Vladimir Putin FELL DOWN HARD while skating around the rink following the game. Putin clearly didn't see the red carpet on the ice and when he hit it, Vlad fell face first. One of his teammates tried to warn him but to no avail. Thoughts and prayers for whoever put the carpet down...

One of the most dramatic of sports stories gets the expert film it deserves in “The Russian Five,” a documentary that is moving in ways you won’t see coming. The sport is professional ice hockey, specifically the saga of the Detroit Red Wings, who in the 1990s changed both their professional trajectory and the way the game is played in the National Hockey League by boldly adding Russian players to the mix. The intensely human situations revealed by director Joshua Riehl will captivate you even if you don’t know a puck from a ping-pong ball. The key to “Russian Five’s”...

Red Kelly, who played on eight Stanley Cup-winning teams during a 20-season NHL career that earned him induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame, died Thursday. He was 91. Kelly was a member of four Cup-winning teams as a defenseman with the Detroit Red Wings from 1947-60 and four more as a center with the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1960-67. His eight championships are more than any player in NHL history who did not play for the Montreal Canadiens.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were eliminated from the NHL Playoffs on Tuesday night as they lost Game 7 to the Bruins in Boston, 5-1. They got off to a rough start in the first period when goalie Frederik Andersen gave up a really soft goal. But instead of blaming Andersen or the rest of the team, fans had fun blaming Leafs fan Justin Bieber, who was seen at the game. Bieber has a curse very similar to the "Drake Curse," which "cost" them in Game 4.

The Flyers are scrubbing connections with famed singer Kate Smith as the team investigates racist lyrics in several of her songs. That includes covering a bronze statue of Smith that stands outside Xfinity Live! and removing her iconic recording of “God Bless America” from their playlist. “We have recently become aware that several songs performed by Kate Smith contain offensive lyrics that do not reflect our values as an organization,” the Flyers said in a statement. "As we continue to look into this serious matter, we are removing Kate Smith’s recording of 'God Bless America’ from our library and covering...

group advocating for Winnipeg’s black community is calling for a name change to the infamous “Whiteout” street parties. Held outside Bell MTS Place before every playoff game, thousands of fans flood the streets in the city’s downtown core dressed from head-to-toe in all white clothing — an image that can be seen as threatening to some, according to Alexa Potashnik, the founder of Black Space Winnipeg. The non-profit organization that lobbies for the city’s black community is suggesting the name of the parties be changed to better reflect Winnipeg’s diversity. BSW posted the following message to its Facebook page prior...

Canadian goaltender Braden Holtby said he will not visit the White House with his Washington Capitals teammates, joining forwards Brett Connolly and Devante Smith-Pelly as players who have declined the invitation to honor the team’s Stanley Cup victory Monday. “I’ve got to stay true to my values, and I’m going to respectfully decline the offer,” Holtby said Friday morning. “In saying that, it’s a tough situation for everyone to be in, to be forced to make a decision of that standing. You’re a team and you want to stick together no matter what, so I hope everyone kind of blows...
