"The Passion of the Christ" (search) was one of the top-grossing films of 2004, yet it has been totally ignored by the Golden Globes and doesn't prominently appear in most mainstream critics "Best of 2004" lists either. Instead, for its "Best Film" nominees, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association chose to honor a movie about a kindly abortionist ("Vera Drake"), a sex researcher ("Kinsey") and euthanasia ("The Sea Inside.") No wonder then that mainstream America feels totally out of touch with Hollywood.
