  • Vanity: New Cooking (and things related) Thread

I'm posting this vanity for two reasons: I'm trying to create a new cooking thread; some of us miss the old one, which has apparently gone dormant. I've had an interesting experience of late: The Washington Post published a recipe for Peanut Soup a couple of weeks ago, and I tried it out. (Peanut soup was apparently very popular in Colonial times, and it seems to be a staple in some Williamsburg restaurants today.) I was kind of amazed at this recipe: There's not much in it but a couple of vegetables, broth, and peanuts - but it comes out...

Family life can just as intellectually unrewarding than work. I periodically write, and regularly broadcast, about male–female issues because I want to help men and women, especially husbands and wives, to get along better. But I have developed a secondary reason: to elicit left-wing reactions. They reveal an enormous amount about how the Left thinks. For example, one of the biggest left-wing websites (Daily Kos) wrote that “Dennis Prager advocates marital rape.” Why? Because I wrote a column in which I suggested that if a woman loves her husband, and if he is a loving and good man, she might...

The bay window in my kitchen holds a tableau of statues representing our beloved family saints. I look at them often because I am in my kitchen most of the day. At times it seems like my life revolves around food! I must plan menus, shop for the food, put it away, prepare it, and clean up after it. I enjoy cooking and preparing healthy meals for my family, but there are days when I would much rather sit outside with a glass of iced tea and a good book. I needed to find a saint who could help me...

President Bush has just concluded his obligatory speech from New Orleans to tell us how we're all going to be heavily involved and invested in the rebuilding of the Crescent City. Let's take a quick look at his laundry list -- a list for which he neglected to name a price tag. • The federal government will "do what it takes" and will "stay as long as it takes" -- great, just what I wanted to hear. • States will be reimbursed for their efforts in responding to Katrina. Does that include states like North Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Montana...
