On Thursday, Eagle County sheriff's deputies arrested Ismael Lopez-Alvarez, 24, after he sexually assaulted a 4-year-old girl after. Luis Arturo Sanchez, 23, entered a guilty plea this afternoon in Brunswick County Superior Court to first degree rape. Geneseo Police Officer Benjamin Swanson arrested Miguel Merino De-Jesus, age 24, from Mexico and Jose Sanchez, 30, from Mexico as illegal aliens on Feb. 28. A man has been sentenced to more than 11 years in prison for beating and blinding a 78-year-old widow inside her Daly City home after she surprised him during a robbery attempt, a prosecutor said Thursday. KINGMAN — A Bullhead City man was indicted for first-degree murder for the alleged shooting death of another man. A Mohave County grand jury indicted Carlos Elisianio Gomez, 24 of first-degree murder. He is expected to be arraigned on the charge Thursday before Superior Court Commissioner Derek Carlisle. Originally from Guatemala, Gomez is being held in county jail without bond. He also has a border patrol hold for being an illegal immigrant, according to the county jail. A Saudi linguist convicted of sexually assaulting a housekeeper and keeping her a virtual slave for four years has won a partial reduction of his prison sentence from a Colorado judge. Homaidan al-Turki was resentenced on Friday to between eight years and life in prison for his convictions on sexual assault and other charges. His original sentence was 28 years to life.

The federal government is suing a local doctor to recover more than $800,000 it says he was paid after fraudulently billing Medicare and Medicaid. In a civil complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt, the Department of Health and Human Services says it wants to recover $814,315 that Dr. Abdul Fadul allegedly collected from the two programs through fraud. The complaint, which also names one of his clinics, the Cardio Vascular Center in La Plata, as a defendant, says Fadul billed Medicare and Medicaid for procedures that weren't performed thousands of times between 2004 and 2005.

Last week, Alexander Rivas, 18, was arrested by Alexandria police, following an investigation that began in November, when the father of a 14-year-old runaway told police his daughter was living with Rivas. Court documents state that the girl was found in the gang member’s apartment and she was being used as a prostitute. According to prosecutors, Rivas ran a prostitution ring, operating in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, using underage runaways. A southwest Houston former nanny is in custody after police said she demanded money for the safe return of a boy she once looked after. PORT ST. LUCIE — A Miami-Dade mortgage broker has pleaded guilty to using fraud in obtaining hundreds of thousands of dollars in mortgages for homes that others converted into marijuana grow houses in the city before 2006, according to federal reports. Hugo Oliva, 47, is to be sentenced March 14 by U.S. District Court Judge Jose Martinez in South Florida. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration contends that Oliva and another defendant, Manuel Caro, used false documents to obtain mortgage loans for purchasing the houses. The falsified documents included bank statements, W2 forms, pay stubs and employment records.
