This juror obviously brought an agenda to the jury room. What happened to fair and objective and what happened to consider only the evidence presented? <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Reader Donna D. describes herself as "HLF trial watcher" and has previously forwarded her observations of the HLF jury as it deliberated in Dallas. The jury ultimately proved to be hung on charges submitted to it against all but one of the defendants, who was acquitted of all charges but one. Over the weekend she drew our attention to the Dallas Morning News article by Jason Trahan on a possible retrial. Trahan's. Only one...
  • CA: Man on death row will have case reheard by appeals court (juror misconduct)

A federal appeals court has agreed to rehear the case of a man on death row for the murder of one woman and the kidnapping, rape and robbery of three others. Stevie Lamar Fields, 49, argued in his appeal that one of the jurors in his trial hid the fact that his wife had been raped, and the man was unfairly biased against him. Fields also claims that his attorney should have objected to having the man on the jury. The decision voids a 3-0 ruling in December by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. An 11-judge panel of...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Zacarias Moussaoui was saved from a death sentence by a single juror who never explained his vote to other members of the jury that sent the September 11 conspirator to prison for life, The Washington Post reported on Friday. The foreman of the 12-person federal jury told the newspaper that the panel voted 11-1, 10-2 and 10-2 in favor of the death penalty on the three charges for which Moussaoui was eligible for execution. A unanimous vote on any one of the three terrorism charges was required to return a death sentence. Moussaoui, 37, a French citizen...
  • I just got called for Jury duty for the first time (want info on Jury Nullification) - VANITY

I just got called for jury duty for the first time. I'm curious about jury nullification in case I get picked and get a consensual "criminal" case (tax evasion, drug posession, gun law violation, etc.). What would I need to know? This could be my chance to stick it to the man. ;) (Of course if I were to get a case of force or fraud I would follow the standing law.)
