Do conservatives regard women as inferior? I sat in church on Mother's Day and listened to the pastor build his sermon around the book of Proverbs. Sadly, one point of emphasis was that "it is better for a man to live in the corner of a roof than share a house with a complaining wife." The pastor predictably joked that "his point was scriptural and not personal." But then went on in poor taste to make other jokes concerning his wife's shopping habits and the number of shoes in her closet. On Father's Day, another pastor spoke, again from Proverbs....

So I was attending a staff meeting (by phone) this week when a colleague and friend began sharing a particularly outrageous story. In about two minutes flat I found myself pacing the floor flabbergasted, my eyes darting back and forth across the room looking for a remedy to the outrage – my notepad. Truth is I thought I had become sufficiently immune to the antics of liberal leftists specifically intended to raise the ire of conservatives, especially Christians. How do you measure the value of life? Is it quality, quantity or something else? Right now the nation is once again split over the taking of human life. I am obviously talking about the life and death struggle surrounding Terri Schiavo. This is a subject that strikes a particularly strong and personal cord with me. I have always believed in the sanctity of human life. This belief applies equally in situations like the one facing Terri as well as those related to the unborn. For example, back in October my little girl was diagnosed in utero with Down's syndrome....

By way of background, in 2002, prostitution was legalized in Germany. This was presumably to combat trafficking in women and cut links to organized crime. As right-thinking people might predict, this "solution" could lead to a continuing downward spiral of immoral behavior. With unemployment in Germany now at 11.4 percent, the next step and solution bandied about is to threaten women with the loss of unemployment benefits if they turn down work as a prostitute. That's right. One possible ultimatum for women who find themselves out of work could be "take off your clothes and get in bed with these...
