Spain: Mutant cockroaches pose health risks Image of a cockroach. Credit: chaipanya/Shutterstock.com Recent findings suggest a disturbing trend in the genetic alterations of cockroaches, directly linked to ongoing climate changes. So far in 2024, Spain has reported a significant rise in cockroach infestations, with incidents increasing by 33 per cent compared to the previous year. Experts, including Jorge Galvan, director of the National Association of Environmental Health Companies (Anecpla), attribute this surge to the record temperatures that are accelerating the metabolic cycles of these pests, notably the Germanic cockroach, commonly found in homes and food-related businesses. ORLANDO, Fla. -- Most of us would do anything to keep cockroaches out of our homes. However, an Orlando man was arrested Wednesday night for smuggling them into the state and into his house. Apparently, bugs are a big business, and officers said he had them illegally shipped into Orlando from California. The roaches are about two-inches-long and they're often used as food for reptiles. But they're illegal in Florida and one Orlando man found out how serious the state is about enforcing the law. Cockroaches are crawling insects some people love to hate and they are everywhere in Florida....

I own and run my pest control company and I am sick and tired of non-english speaking Mexicans calling my business and expecting me to provide a translator. I am considering having "No Hable Espanol" printed on my new business cards. What do the Freepers think about it? Will this hurt my business?
  • What Would Happen if no Mexican Workers Crossed the Border

Here is a basic question. If we could wave a magic wand and in a short time every illegal worker returned to his native county, would we be richer or poorer? The answer is substantially poorer. In fact it would trigger an economic crisis that could well shatter our economy. Various economic models have tried to answer whether we could get alone without foriegn workers but no model has yet captured the domino effect of a complete elimination of foriegn workers. No employer wants to be quoted on his business or industry's dependancy for obvious reasons. But this is the...

It was supposed to be a quick after school snack, but instead a family said it turned out more like a scene from an episode of "Fear Factor." A family claimed it ate fast food sandwiches filled with baby roaches. However, the real debate began after the company quickly offered a cash settlement that Linda Watson said made her even angrier. Watson said she drove up to a KFC drive-through window in Waxahachie and came home with the surprise. "They were all in the sandwich [and] they were alive crawling in the napkin," she said. Her daughter, Alicia Lewis, said...

TIJUANA, Mexico (Reuters) - The Mexican border city of Tijuana, a weekend playground for U.S. visitors, plans to give prostitutes electronic health cards and regulate brothels in an effort to clean up its gritty image. Under a bylaw passed last month, the city is forcing about 50 clandestine brothels to meet public safety and hygiene standards, like putting clean sheets on beds, or face closure. "We have a lot of prostitution but few controls," Martha Montejano, head of the council's health and human development commission, said on Wednesday. "This aims to combat sexually transmitted diseases and bring order to the...
  • Radio station suspends pro-English ad ["Yo, Gringo!"....]

Radio station suspends pro-English ad The Associated Press 6/1/2004, 7:35 p.m. ET WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — A radio station temporarily suspended broadcasts of a commercial for a Republican congressional candidate who rails against illegal immigration but then signs off in Spanish, including the salutation "Yo, Gringo!" WSJS-AM said it made the decision over the holiday weekend because it was unclear if the sponsor was clearly identified in the otherwise-English ad for candidate Vernon Robinson. The ad contends the prevalence of Spanish spoken in the United States can make English-speaking Americans feel like they're in "The Twilight Zone." Only the final...

WASHINGTON (AP) - The population surge that has made Hispanics America's largest minority shows no sign of slowing in the next 20 years, according to a study released Tuesday by a Latino research group. The Pew Hispanic Center found that much of the growth will be from children born to parents who arrived during the immigration wave that began in the 1980s. Because they are native-born, many of those youngsters will have an easier time than their parents, freed of language barriers that made it harder to find work and fully assimilate into American society.

NEW YORK - (KRT) - This is going to make your skin crawl.

Bedbugs - those tenacious, bloodsucking little critters that once were so successfully eradicated from the United States that parents teased small children about them at bedtime - are making a comeback. A big, itchy, coast-to-coast comeback.

In New York, in one Queens apartment building, all residents had to throw out their mattresses and have their entire wardrobes doused in scalding water.

In Madison, Wis., dozens of homes were found to be swarming with the bugs.

You MUST see this!!! In today's Fresno Bee, a truly odious attack on Arnold Schwarzenegger. I haven't the skills to do a direct paste, but click on the link above, to see for yourself, how low the Bee (in Fresno or Sacramento) will stoop, to protect Gray-out Davis...BTW, they also printed nearly a full page of puff-piece, to show Davis as "taking responsibility, and confessing that he's "made some mistakes."God, I despise liberals..... (((shaking head in disgust)))

It is said, "The truth will set you free." From my experience, and those of my opinion-sharing Latino colleagues, the truth just gets a lot of people mad at you. Take, for example, the recent usage of the popular character "Hello Kitty" by political satirist Lalo Alcaraz in his nationally syndicated comic strip La Cucaracha. Aside from drawing Kitty with a decidedly Latino twist, a sombrero planted behind the ever-present bow, it was the text in the cartoon that animated discussion. As with most of his work, Alcaraz's blunt assessment of life in the United States for Latinos and Latino...
