Nov. 4, 2010 8:44 a.m. • 11 comments Idaho elected its first Hispanic to represent the state in Congress on Tuesday, as Raul Labrador upset freshman Democratic Rep. Walt Minnick with a decisive 51 percent to 41.3 percent victory. Labrador, a conservative Republican state lawmaker and immigration attorney, said he thought the “first” was significant because it sent a message to the nation about Idahoans. “People have such a bad connotation of what Idaho represents,” Labrador said, “a bad place, a racist place. I can’t think of a better message for Idaho to send than to send a young man...

This is a post I don't want to write. Unfortunately, I have to. Yesterday on the program we discussed the proposed changes in the horrendously biased coroner's inquest process here in Las Vegas. During that segment, I had the lamentable task of telling you that many police officers, the Sheriff, and even the DA all opposed the basic changes to the inquest process demanded by the public.

Deep beneath Vegas’s glittering lights lies a sinister labyrinth inhabited by poisonous spiders and a man nicknamed The Troll who wields an iron bar. But astonishingly, the 200 miles of flood tunnels are also home to 1,000 people who eke out a living in the strip’s dark underbelly. Some, like Steven and his girlfriend Kathryn, have furnished their home with considerable care - their 400sq ft 'bungalow' boasts a double bed, a wardrobe and even a bookshelf. They have been there for five years, fashioning a shower out of a water cooler, hanging paintings on the walls and collating a...

Evidently casinos pretty much supported the fraud that took place and also tried to force their employees to vote for Reid. As a big thank you, I won't be going to Vegas until Reid is out!

NEW YORK — November 2 is not here yet, but polling problems have begun. From possibly malfunctioning ballot gear to potential fraud, the 2010 mid-term vote is marred even before Election Day has dawned. •Like jurors who deliberate before a trial concludes, some Nevadans who have tried voting early for Republican Senate nominee Sharron Angle instead have seen Democrat Harry Reid’s name appear on their electronic voting machines. Some voters have complained about this apparent glitch, but how many others unwittingly have miscast their ballots? Intriguingly, these machines are maintained in Las Vegas by members of the Service Employees International...

NMAWorldEdition — October 27, 2010 — http://www.nma.tv/ The contest is close for Nevada's senate seat, a race that pits Majority Leader Harry Reid against Tea Party challenger Sharron Angle. Many voters blame Reid for Nevada's unemployment and housing problems. Angle, meanwhile, is campaigning on an anti-immigration platform. Some of her more colorful gaffes include describing a room full of Hispanic college students as Asian. She also described herself as the first Asian lawmaker in Nevada's state legislature. The anti-abortion candidate also said rape and incest victims should make lemonade out of a lemon situation. Despite her seeming missteps, Angle has...

The proposed DesertXpress project connecting Victorville to Las Vegas was not among them. A total of $2.4 billion was given to 54 high-speed rail projects throughout the nation in the hopes of developing better inter-city passenger rail service. DesertXpress, the proposed high-speed train that would run from Victorville to Las Vegas, was ineligible for an award...

Once-Booming Las Vegas may be Reduced to Ghost Cityby Kathy Jones October 24, 2010 at 5:49 PM The housing market in Las Vegas is on the slide and many have already left for greener shores. Earlene Howard is the only person left living in a house on her block in Sin City, and she's not sure how much longer she'll be there as the once booming Las Vegas housing market continues to spiral downwards. The rest of her neighbors have seen their homes repossessed by lenders, and she's already behind two months on her mortgage after her husband lost his...

Well, its about time! For MONTHS the mainstream Japanese media has more or less been downplaying or avoiding coverage of a) Obama's lack of popularity; b) the rise of the "Tea Party" phenomenon in the USA. All that changed tonight (scroll down to find link to great video). Original title: ç±³ä¸é–“é¸æŒ™ã€ãƒ†ã‚£ãƒ¼ãƒ‘ーティーã«å¤§çµ±é ˜è‹¦æˆ¦

Did you know that the SEIU represents the voting machine technicians in Clark County (Las Vegas), Nevada? Is it any surprise, as we noted earlier today, that there was a voting glitch in Clark County, Nevada? The glitch caused Harry Reid’s name to be automatically checked on the ballot before voters had indicated who were they were supporting. According to Joyce Ferrara who was an eyewitness to this strange ballot ordeal, the problem was widespread, “One person that’s a fluke. Two, that’s strange. But several within a five minute period of time — that’s wrong.” It is particularly troubling that...

Democrats are about to be trounced in the midterm elections, and if the pundits are correct the emergency brakes are about to be slammed on Obama’s out of control liberal agenda. In response to the predictions of a Republican tidal wave coupled together with lack of enthusiasm for the Democrat party and Barack’s policies, the President is stumping for Democrat candidates as if his life depended on it. The Democrat Party is certainly giving it their all. Stumper/early voter Michelle Obama is showing up all over America. Nuclear-code-loser Bill Clinton has found his way to “95 campaign stops for 65...

Harry’s Henchman Rory ReidHarry Reid’s Mob Money, Part 2By Fedora Mr. Cleanface’s Dirty Laundry: Harry Reid’s Mob Money revisited a 1979 Justice Department probe into allegations that Midwestern Mafia members skimming funds from the Tropicana casino had channeled bribes to Nevada Gaming Commission chairman Harry Reid through mob lawyer Oscar Goodman and Tropicana attorney Jay H. Brown. Although the probe officially cleared Reid, he subsequently received numerous contributions from gambling industry figures, including Brown and known Mafia-associates as well as legitimate individuals and corporations. Reid’s son Rory has followed in his footsteps by associating with his father’s patrons in the...

AP Exclusive: Reid Got $1M in Land SaleBy JOHN SOLOMON and KATHLEEN HENNESSEY Associated Press Writers Oct 11 01:13 PM US/Eastern WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid collected a $1.1 million windfall on a Las Vegas land sale even though he hadn't personally owned the property for three years, property deeds show. In the process, Reid did not disclose to Congress an earlier sale in which he transferred his land to a company created by a friend and took a financial stake in that company, according to records and interviews. The Nevada Democrat's deal was engineered by Jay...

California officials are cutting off use of state-issued welfare debit cards at casinos across the country and on cruise ships, in the wake of Times reports that the aid cards have been used to spend or withdraw millions of dollars in benefits at popular vacation spots including the Las Vegas strip and on ships sailing from ports around the world.

There are many cities across the country that are beginning to see the first glimpses of the end of the recession. This is not one of them. The nation's gambling capital is staggering under a confluence of economic forces that has sent Las Vegas into what officials describe as its deepest economic rut since casinos first began rising in the desert there in the 1940s. Even as city leaders remain hopeful that gambling revenues will rebound with the nation's economy, experts pro- ject that it will not be enough to make up for an even deeper realignment that has taken...
