SIERRA VISTA — A soldier whose wife and children live in Sierra Vista was killed in action in Baghdad on Thursday. First Sgt. Bobby Mendez, 38, died when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. His wife Jennifer said she and her children were informed of his death last week. The soldier is also survived by two daughters, Thyiena, 13, and Chyanne, 7, and a son, Quentin, 12.
