The six “universe breakers” appear much larger than what scientists thought was possible at that time Images of the six objects thought to be massive galaxies from the early universe NASA, ESA, CSA, I. Labbe (Swinburne University of Technology). Image processing: G. Brammer (Niels Bohr Institute’s Cosmic Dawn Center at the University of Copenhagen) Astronomers have identified what appear to be six massive galaxies from the infancy of the universe. The objects are so massive, that if confirmed, they could change how we think of the origins of galaxies. The findings, published Wednesday in Nature, use data from the James...

I saw the movie at an afternoon showing at the Harkins Theater in Yuma, Arizona on 28 October, 2017. I knew the movie dealt with theme of a prominent atheist converting to Christianity. The movie is not an action packed drama, so well loved of Hollywood of late. It deals in personal interrelations and faith.  I suppose you you could say it is a "chick flick".  The opening scene, where the main protagonist "debates" with a Christian academic, is powerful, because it shows the primary value left to secularists: hedonism. I suspect many will be able to relate to...

“The world has gotten darker,” says actor/director Kevin Sorbo, explaining why he’s teamed up with Sean Hannity to bring “Let There Be Light,” a film full of hope, faith and love, to theaters this week. “The world has gotten more evil,” said the 57-year-old actor, who co-wrote the film with his wife, Sam. “And this movie is about bringing lightness to the darkness, because dark hates the light. “People are looking for hope. They are looking for a glimmer of something positive in their lives, because so much negativity happens. Evil, a lot of times, is so hard explain it,...

Who would have thought that just as Hollywood was falling apart, its box office receipts in the toilet and its most Oscar-laden producer being revealed to have spent the better part of his life in one, a new producer would come riding in on a white horse to save the entertainment industry and that producer would be... Sean Hannity?! Well, not by himself. The popular Fox News host is flanked by three more seasoned filmmakers — director/actor Kevin Sorbo, his wife, actress/writer Sam Sorbo and longtime screenwriter Dan Gordon. Their film — Let There Be Light — opened Friday in...

Christmas tree at centre of Korea dispute * From: AFP * December 21, 2010 7:04PM SOUTH Korean marines are guarding a Christmas tree, the latest focus of tensions with North Korea following Seoul's artillery drill near the disputed sea border a day earlier. A South Korean church was planning to switch on Christmas lights in the shape of a tree atop a military-controlled hill near the tense land border today - the first such display for seven years. The ceremony will come a day after South Korea staged a live-fire exercise on the border island of Yeonpyeong, which was bombarded...

As deadlines loom in California's landmark law to curb greenhouse-gas emissions, the Senate hopes to write into the state budget a rule that forces Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's Market Advisory Committee to eschew closed-door meetings and allow the public to view its deliberations. The committee is charged with proposing the heart of the carbon-emissions law--the system of rewards and penalties that will actually make the statute work. The confidential nature of the committee is well known in the Capitol but has been largely ignored outside the state, where the focus has been as much on Schwarzenegger, an actor-turned-politician with a huge...

The apparent absence of shadows where shadows were expected to be is raising new questions about the faint glow of microwave radiation once hailed as proof that the universe was created by a "Big Bang." In a finding sure to cause controversy, scientists at UAH found a lack of evidence of shadows from "nearby" clusters of galaxies using new, highly accurate measurements of the cosmic microwave background. A team of UAH scientists led by Dr. Richard Lieu, a professor of physics, used data from NASA's Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) to scan the cosmic microwave background for shadows caused by...
