I would just like to start this thread for a safe place for us who may need each other and/or help each other. Please feel welcome to share or maybe just reading it will help. I hope this thread gives us a place to go through the journey of grief without feeling alone.

There will be no gold medal chance for the U.S. women’s soccer team at the Tokyo Olympics after they went down to Canada early Monday morning. The 1-0 victory was the first by the Canadians against their U.S. neighbour since 2001. A second-half penalty delivered for Canada as it upset the four-time Olympic women’s football champions in Kashima to reach the final for the first time. Canada will now face the winner of the late semifinal in Yokohama between Sweden and Australia. The gold medal match is set for Friday at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo.

TOKYO—The U.S. Women’s Soccer Team's Olympic hopes are once again in jeopardy after opponents came up with a clever way to defeat them: playing the U.S. national anthem during every game so that the women have to kneel the entire time. It's a move many are calling the "greatest 4D chess move of all time." Some are even saying it's the most important strategy developed in soccer since the kick was invented. Many are hopeful it will even get Americans interested in watching soccer again. "It's a genius strategy," said one commentator as a singer on the sidelines began singing,...

I lost my best friend... 15 years ago I was divorced. My friends and family sided with my ex. My two daughters haven't talked to me since. Shortly after the divorce, I adopted a 10-week-old labradoodle puppy, Bentley. Since that time, we have been inseparable, having crossed the country twice and spending every day together since that time. He became my best and at times only friend. Once during a hike in the back hills, he saved me from a wild cat attack. He froliced with me during the happy times and provided me comfort during the sad ones. He...

(CNN)A half dozen new swing-state polls released Thursday morning suggest that not only would President Donald Trump lose if the election were held today, he would lose in a landslide. The surveys, conducted by The New York Times and Siena College, show Trump trailing former Vice President Joe Biden by double digits in Michigan (Biden +11), Wisconsin (Biden +11) and Pennsylvania (Biden+ 10) and by mid-single digits in North Carolina (Biden +9), Arizona (Biden +7) and Florida (Biden +6). Trump won every one of those states in the 2016 election. Switch them from red to blue and you can quickly...

New York (CNN Business)Berkshire Hathaway, the massive conglomerate run by billionaire Warren Buffett, posted a nearly $50 billion net loss in the first quarter -- the biggest loss ever for the storied company. Berkshire, which owns companies including Geico auto insurer, Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad, Dairy Queen, Duracell and many other financial, industrial and consumer firms, has been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic. Just like the rest of the market and economy. The company said in a regulatory filing Saturday morning that before the coronavirus hit the United States in mid-March, many of Berkshire's businesses were posting revenue...

Deutsche Bank has published its financial report for the first quarter of 2020, revealing that the German lender has posted a bottom-line loss of €43 million attributable to shareholders during the three month period. Although the German bank posted a loss of €43 million, it is worth noting that it is still better than analysts had initially expected, with the figure reflecting higher revenues on the back of increased trading, which has been driven by COVID-19 related volatility. For the three month period, Deutsche Bank confirmed that it had achieved a Group profit before tax (PBT) of €206 million after...

Car maker draws more than $15 billion from credit lines, sees even bigger loss in the second quarterFord Motor Co. on Tuesday reported a wider-than-expected first-quarter loss and braced for steeper losses in the next quarter as the coronavirus pandemic continued to snuff demand for big-ticket items and kept factories closed. “I never had a business plan that was called pandemic,” Ford Chief Executive Jim Hackett said on a call after the results. “We just never imagined the economy turning off” like it has to curb the spread of the virus. Ford US:F lost $2 billion, or 50 cents a...

Initial jobless claims surged to more 6.6 million last week, the Labor Department said Thursday. That brings the two-week total to about 10 million due to the coronavirus-induced economic shutdown. The torrent of Americans filing for unemployment insurance skyrocketed last week as more than 6.6 million new claims were filed, the Labor Department reported Thursday. That brings to 10 million the total Americans who filed over the past two weeks. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had expected 3.1 million for last week, one week after 3.3 million filings in the first wave of what has been a record-shattering swelling of...

This Christmas has been extraordinarily difficult for people that have lost... valuable items, money, friends, homes, cars, loved ones, beloved pets... If you have lost something recently please let us know. You don't have to say what it is if you don't want to but we will all be praying for your recovery and healing from your loss no matter how big or small. The family dog of 13 years had to be put down. Her body was shutting down and nose cancer had taken its toll. She wouldn't eat and I had to carry her. I can't say enough good things about the local vets, C-Vets Emergency, and NC State K9 Oncology. They did so much for her and us during her time. RIP to the world's best GSD ever. Terra. It was one of those bad mornings. I had just driven home from a quick trip to the Westford Market Basket to pick up my $0.99 ($1.06 with tax) cup of coffee. I reached over to the passenger seat to routinely slide my cellphone into my hand. It was not there. I must have left it in the house. It was not there, either, not in the kitchen, the bathroom, bedroom, family room or in my man cave. Nowhere. I went back to the car and searched the seats and the floorboards, front and back. No luck

Not only is the U.S. Postal Service delivering less mail – it is now delivering fewer packages Opens a New Window. after it warned Congress Opens a New Window. it could run out of cash in the not so distant future. What happens when you are given a five minute notice before your company lays you off? Another stab at getting yet another American job, and America boss in an American corporate environment? Is that what your options are? As an American man, just what are your options? 8 Oct 2018555 House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is attempting to boost morale among her Democratic colleagues in the wake of the fight over Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation by urging them to “OWN OCTOBER” and win a majority in the November elections. The letter, dated Sunday, October 7, tacitly acknowledges that Democrats are dejected after failing to stop Kavanaugh — and that Republicans are enjoying a massive boost in voter enthusiasm that could help the GOP retain Congress in the midterms. A new survey of battleground districts published by the Washington Post on Monday shows that Democrats only enjoy a...

Scientists originally discovered hyperaccumulators in the 1970s, and so far over 65 such plants have been identified in New Caledonia, 59 in Turkey, and a few others in countries like Brazil, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. However, scientists are convinced that many more remain to be discovered. This capacity to store large quantities of heavy metals has been studied by various biological sciences, from molecular biology to physiology and biochemistry, and while much has been learnt about the hyperaccumulation and hypertolerance of zinc and cadmium by some plants, nickel hyperaccumulation mechanisms remain a mystery. The evolution of hyperaccumulators like Pycnandra acuminata is believed to...
