She thinks she’s Marie Antoinette!” a White House insider told The ENQUIRER. “It has nothing to do with Sam’s cooking, which is superb. But you could be Wolfgang Puck and Michelle wouldn’t be happy. With public school students using #ThanksMichelle to tweet photos of their skimpy, stomach-turning school lunches, I decided to look at what Michelle Obama's daughters are served at Sidwell Friends school, and it turns out the girls dine on lunches from menus designed by chefs. While the Obama daughters have enjoyed dishes like chicken coconut soup, local butternut squash soup, crusted tilapia, they also get their fill of what Mrs. Obama might consider junk food. This week, for example, they'll enjoy meatball subs, BBQ wings, and ice cream, in addition to chicken curry, deviled egg salad and the intriguing "Chef's Choice."...

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the...

Poverty and unemployment are at near-record levels, the economy is stalled, and a record 47 million Americans are on food stamps, yet aides for first lady Michelle Obama’s tweeted out a picture of her two dogs apparently dining at a table laid with crystal and china. “Bone appétit!,” the aides added to the insensitive tweet, using the language of France’s queen Marie Antoinette, who was executed by radicals in 1793. One dog appears to be wearing a jeweled necklace. The other is wearing a red ribbon. Obama’s media courtiers applauded the ostentatious display of canine luxury. “Bo And Sunny Obama...

VAIL — Michelle Obama had at least five options for weekend destinations, but insisted on Vail, sources told the Vail Daily. The first lady and her daughters were among those who packed up and headed for home Monday, closing out a busy Presidents Day weekend in the Vail Valley. Michelle Obama's press secretary issued a statement Saturday that the family is picking up the tab for personal expenses. Sources say that because Obama was largely paying her own way, she insisted on the final say.

Michelle Obama thinks being America’s First Lady is ‘hell’, Carla Bruni reveals today in a wildly indiscreet new book. Miss Bruni reveals that Mrs Obama replied when asked about her position as the U.S. president’s wife: ‘Don’t ask! It’s hell. I can’t stand it!’ Details of the private conversation, which took place at the White House during an official visit by Nicolas Sarkozy last March, emerged in Carla And The Ambitious, a book written in collaboration with Miss Bruni.

I think it's a fair question to ask. I too have taken notice that 'Obama is a muslim', some of the puzzle pieces fit. But not enough IMHO, it doesn't stand on it's own. Now, if you re ask the question as "Is Obama an appeaser of muslims" then all of the puzzle pieces fit, particularly that of radical liberation theology. There shouldn't be any questions that he believes that garbage. Obama is not a muslim, he is a believer in liberation. And that does stand on it's own.

When images of Jean Paul Gaultier-clad First Lady Michelle Obama on a $75,000-a-day Spanish holiday hit the wires, controversy was bound to erupt back home. Her carefully crafted image as "everywoman" was blown. In addition to the high cost, the evolving justifications for the trip offered by the White House's flack were just as dizzying. (snip) That's why the Marie Antoinette comparison is apt: The trip evokes a similar contempt for the plebeians. We might expect such detachment from celebrities, but not public servants. A leader shouldn't be living like a monarch when the rest of the country feels like...

What the great French historian Alexis de Tocqueville would make of today’s Obama administration were he alive today is anyone’s guess. But I would wager that the author of L’Ancien Régime and Democracy in America would be less than impressed with the extravagance and arrogance on display among the White House elites that rule America as though they had been handed some divine right to govern with impunity. It is the kind of impunity that has been highlighted on the world stage this week by Michelle Obama’s hugely costly trip to Spain, which has prompted a New York Post columnist...

Marie Antoinette may not be the best historical reference for the current Obama Family vs. the American people disconnect. First, there's no proof that the 18th century French queen ever actually uttered the phrase "Let them eat cake" when told the peasants had no bread. And second, the majority of the American people are not demanding that the Obama government give them bread or cake or anything else except the freedom to do our own baking.

She knew from the beginning. According to a CIA memorandum summarizing briefings to Congress on the use of enhanced interrogation techniques on terrorist detainees, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca) knew from the very beginning that those techniques -- including waterboarding -- were being used on September 2, 2002. According to the memo the very first briefing listed is 9/4/02 with then Rep. Porter Goss & Pelosi. The summary of the briefing says: “Briefing on EITs including use of EITs on Abu Zubaydah, background on authorities, and a description of the particular EITs that had been employed.” This directly contradicts Pelosi’s...

This is my first complete column about John Edwards. I hope it’ll also be the last. The bottom line for us in North Carolina is quite clear. Edwards didn’t run for reelection to the Senate because if he had, he would have lost. That ought to tell folks elsewhere in the nation something useful. Why should anyone take him seriously for President, or even Vice President, when those who know him best – in his own state – don’t take him seriously as a mere Senator? Plus there are more immediate defects in the Edwards campaign this time around. He...

Remember when all then-House Speaker Newt Gingrich wanted was to use the front steps of Air Force One? That didn't work out, thanks to Bill Clinton's aides - but in retrospect it seems that the taxpayers never had it so good. Now the new speaker, Democrat Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco, is demanding her own personal Pentagon-provided jet. Who's to get the tab? That's right: You. The speaker has decided that she needs a personal shuttle between Washington, D.C., and her home out on the Left Coast. Historically, House speakers flew commercial. Then, after 9/11, Speaker Dennis Hastert cited security...

Article OneMarie-Antoinette Goes to Hollywood             by Jonah GoldbergMarie-Antoinette didn't actually say "Let them eat cake!" In fact, she actually worked pretty hard to feed the poor. The legend comes from Rousseau's Confessions, where he wrote that a "Great princess" had declared "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche" while the people were starving. Unfortunately "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche" doesn't mean "Let them eat cake!" either. It means, more or less, "Let them eat [expensive] buns." And, it should be pointed out, Confessions was written in 1768, two years before Marie-Antoinette moved to France. Assuming Rousseau...
