(CNN) — Rush Limbaugh responded to Roberta McCain's criticism of his tough radio persona Thursday, joking over the fact "McCain's mother is dumping on me." "She is absolutely right" in her assessment that that she belongs to a different Republican Party than he does, Limbaugh said during his radio show: "The Republican Party she belongs to gets shellacked election after election after election." . . . . . On his show Thursday, Limbaugh made clear he found the criticism quite amusing. "Sending Sen. McCain's mother out to dump on me?" Limbaugh said, laughing. "I love it."

Republican leaders frantically seeking to rebrand their party might want to swing their attention from Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney to a feisty young Republican who has never been elected to anything: Meghan McCain. The 24-year-old daughter of U.S. Sen. John McCain, the 2008 GOP presidential candidate, is a regular political blogger and most certainly not her mother Cindy's serene, St. John-suit-wearing stereotype of a Republican woman.

After her son's failed presidential bid, 97-year-old Roberta McCain can let her guard down. BY JAMES RAINEY Reporting from Washington -- It had been more than a year in the making, this meeting between Roberta McCain and me. The smart guys who managed her son's presidential campaign got all queasy at the thought of Roberta, unfettered, in a journalist's thrall. I managed a few tantalizing phone calls with John McCain's outspoken mother, a column on my vain pursuit of an interview and a promise that the end of the presidential race would bring a chance for us to share some...

Talk about the apple not falling far from the tree. Senator John McCain had been noted in the past as being a “straight talker.” I think that this aspect about him was sadly muted during his run for President. That said, it seems that the penchant for straight talk can also be found in his daughter, Meghan. Meghan McCain spoke Saturday at the national convention for the Log Cabin Republicans and presented a new face for the GOP: a conservative that is forward looking on issues like the environment and gay rights and yet able to hold on the core...

The Log Cabin Republicans are holding a convention in Washington, D.C. this week and weekend to discuss the future of the Republican Party and how gay Republicans can feel at home within it. POLITICO caught up with Terry Hamilton, the group's chairman, and interviewed him about whether it's easier to be a gay Republican or a gay Democrat, if the Republican Party is becoming more accommodating of gay conservatives, and whether Meghan McCain — who speaks Saturday at the convention's closing dinner and who has passionately encouraged the GOP to support gay marriage — has become a hero for Log...

(CNN) – Log Cabin Republicans are getting some support from the McCain family. Cindy and Meghan McCain will make an appearance at the gay rights organization's four day convention in Washington, which kicks off Thursday night. "Of all the causes I believe in and speak publicly about, this is one of the ones closest to my heart," Meghan McCain, a vocal supporter of same-sex marriage, wrote in the Daily Beast this week. "If the Republican Party has any hope of gaining substantial support from a wider, younger base, we need to get past our anti-gay rhetoric." Steve Schmidt, former senior...

In today's Daily Beast the daughter of Sen. John McCain, Meghan McCain, wrote about the need for "a gayer GOP" in order to expand the Republican Party's hopes of winning back a majority coalition and in particular in order to appeal to young voters. I recently completed research on the topic of young voters and the GOP: where the Republican Party is losing young voters, how serious the threat is to the party, and how the Republican Party should respond. And on this point, Ms. McCain has it right - the issue of gay marriage is one on which young...

Granted, it was skewed by Politico’s link, but not by that much. Meggie Mac, er, weighs in: I am a woman who despises labels and boxes and stereotypes. Recently, I seemed to have rocked a few individuals within my party by saying that I am a pro-life, pro-gay-marriage Republican. So if anyone is still confused, let me spell it out for you. I believe life begins at conception and I believe that people who fall in love should have the option to get married. Lest we forget, our founding document, the Declaration of Independence, grants the same rights to everyone...

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Todd Palin, the normally reticent husband of Alaska governor Sarah Palin, isn't hung up on the ups-and-downs of the 2008 presidential campaign. He'd rather spend his time snowmobiling than politicking, according to a profile of the so-called 'First Dude' in the upcoming issue of Men's Journal.

Regardless of whether or not McCain makes a serious mark in politics, she is already having an impact on the fight against society's objectification of women. (WASHINGTON D.C.) - The personal is political, but does that mean political pundits should critique the size of your thighs rather than your values and actions? Meghan McCain was into the public eye when her father decided to run for president. Once the race was over, she made a conscious decision to stay in the spotlight, and joining the Daily Beast as a columnist. As a young woman promoting, and sometimes criticizing, the Republican...

Captain Ed Morrissey points out that, according to her Twitter feed, Meghan McCain has found the comedic Holy Grail: (Tweet #1 and #2) To the people at current that created this, I am flattered beyond words. I can officially die a happy woman. Officially the funniest thing I have ever seen in my entire life (and I have seen my fair share). Thanks for correctly animating my bootylicious body :-) LOVE IT!!!

The GOP's identity crisis just got more interesting with the media splash of Meghan McCain, daughter of the senator who did not become president. Young McCain, who began blogging during her father's presidential campaign, recently made waves at the Daily Beast when she picked a fight with conservative media mavens Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham. This is enough sport to make the little dog laugh, to say nothing of the dish and the spoon. McCain, just 24, is one smart cookie. In a matter of weeks, she has created a brand, presenting herself as a fresh face of her daddy's...

Fact: Meghan McCain is the most visible political person in the country under 25 years of age right now. With appearances on Rachel Maddow, The View, and now Larry King Live, the 2008 presidential campaign (and her blogging during it) has given her a sizable podium. Some have criticized her for her centrist, socially liberal views--Laura Ingraham compared her to a plus-sized model--and earlier this month she gave a name to the brand of moderate Republicanism to which she ascribes: "progressive Republican." Last night, on Larry King Live, she talked more about what that means: "I consider myself a progressive...

King: Does Obama seem like the same guy who ran against your dad? How do you view him? McCain: He's our president and when the election was over and when President Obama won, all negative feelings were gone. I support the president.

Despite the title, I have nothing against Meghan McCain. I am sure she is a very nice person, and I'm sure she will accomplish plenty before her life is complete. Frankly, I am sure that so far she has accomplished more than me. That said, at this point, her main resume point is a very accomplished dad. That's what I was thinking as I watched her exchange pot shots with several prominent conservative thinkers. Whatever her name, there is no reason why she has any more credibility speaking about the direction and future of the Republican party than any obscure...

Last week, Ingraham mocked McCain on her radio show after the daughter of former GOP presidential nominee John McCain urged Republicans to seek compromise with Democrats. Ingraham called McCain “a Valley Girl gone awry” and a “plus-sized model.”

McCain, who writes about politics and her personal life for The Daily Beast, went on The View on Monday to fight back.

Meghan McCain responds to Laura Ingraham’s attack on her weight: Why is this topic still a socially accepted prejudice—and why in the world would a woman raise it? BY MEGHAN MCCAINRecently my not-size-0 body has come under fire again by the conservative pundit Laura Ingraham. On her radio show recently, she sarcastically commented that I was “too plus-sized to be a cast member on the television show The Real World” and needled me about my weight with a comment about Barbie's 50th anniversary. Instead of intellectually debating our ideological differences about the future of the Republican Party, Ingraham resorted to...

H/T Michelle Malkin Malkin: You know what’s wrong with Meghan McCain? It’s not her weight. It’s not her voice. It’s not her looks. She’s a beautiful young girl with TV-friendly poise and natural charm. The trouble with Meghan McCain is that, like her father, she has no fixed ideological principles — conservative, liberal, or otherwise. She seems to have inherited the notion that playing the “maaaaverick” imparts her with moral authority and credibility as a fresh voice for the GOP. I’m all for speaking truth to power. But like her father, Ms. McCain’s maaaaverick-iness appears to be rooted less in...

Back in early 2007, about 20 months before the last Presidential election, I wrote a post called “Why I can’t trust John McCain.” I wasn’t alone. A Google search on “I don’t trust McCain” reveals a couple thousand hits. I grew tired of McCain fighting our agenda, voting against tax cuts, bowing to global warming loons, insulting Christian leaders, ganging against us with his liberal “Gang of 14” and passing useless laws with liberals like Russ Feingold. Not to mention his ignoring of CPAC. The Press rewarded him with the name “Maverick” for bashing the Republican Party (if a Democrat...

Meghan McCain put her two cents into the cable babble discussion on the "Democratic plot," as Rep. John Boehner calls it, of a second stimulus package, telling Fox & Friends this morning that it would be a "disaster." But last night, during what McCain Twittered was a "fun, provocative interview" with MSNBC host Rachel Maddow ("P.S. she's got great style..." continued the Tweet), McCain confessed she doesn't know much about the economy.
