ROSEVILLE, Mich. — After 17 years at the same company, Dawn Wilson has just lost her job. The petite blond stands in the parking lot of Roseville Towne Center, a strip mall with a Walmart, a Dollar Tree, a jewelry pawn shop and what was Hillary Clinton's campaign office, where a bright yellow sidewalk tent now hawks "Free Cell Phones." A few people wait to sign up for the phones. "I've worked there for 17 years. I was on vacation when I got a text from my boss on Good Friday to call him. He told me don't come back...

On December 3, the Michigan Democratic Party held a committee meeting, open to the public and party members, to vote on delegates to represent Michigan at the Democratic National Committee. Unfortunately, rather than learning from Hillary Clinton’s presidential election loss, and sincerely welcoming Bernie Sanders supporters into the party after scolding them for more than a year, the Democratic establishment has continued treating progressives as second class citizens. Michigan was one of the most closely contested races during the Democratic primaries. Sanders pulled off an upset victory there after polling suggested Clinton was likely to win. The most recent turmoil...

ANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan's elections bureau ordered an investigation Monday into substantial ballot discrepancies in a small portion of Detroit's voting precincts, after the discovery of a polling place where 300 people voted but only 50 ballots were properly sealed in a container. Since learning of the issue last week during Michigan's presidential recount, state officials have learned of similar "significant mismatch" problems at roughly 20 of Detroit's 490 precincts, said Fred Woodhams, a spokesman for Republican Secretary of State Ruth Johnson. He said there is no reason to think votes were not counted and the differences would not...

Vote early and often Rob covered this issue in large part yesterday while I was on the road, but as a second-day followup I wanted to highlight what could be a major - and until now, largely unrealized - problem with the administration of elections in major urban counties that vote heavily Democratic. Michigan’s recount has obviously hit some major legal hurdles, but it’s also hit a huge administrative one: Wayne County, which votes overwhelmingly Democratic and is Michigan’s largest county, can’t seem to reconcile the hand count of ballots with what the voting machines indicated. And it’s not even...

There are some really strange things going on in Detroit with the vote. First the Detroit Free Press wrote an article saying that over 59% of Detroit precincts couldn't be recounted due to mismatched votes. Then the claims that there are 85,000 uncounted votes in Detroit. So I did a little digging. First the Wayne County Clerk lists 1.134 million ballots cast, but if you add the total presidential votes there are 1.252 million total. Second, Detroit is listed as having a 97% voter turnout, but is short the 85,000 votes vs ballots cast. This matches votes cast for other...

LANSING, MI -- Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette told FOX News on Monday that a federal court intervening in Michigan's recount amounted to a "takeover." Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein requested the recount, and requested action from the United States District Court Eastern District of Michigan. The court held a rare weekend hearing and ruled just after Midnight on Sunday that Michigan's recount proceed. It began in two counties at noon on Monday. But Schuette is arguing that Michigan courts should handle the matter. "Michigan law needs to govern, not some federal takeover," Schuette said on FOX News just...

President-elect Donald J. Trump is expected to officially object Thursday to Green Party candidate Jill Stein’s request for a laborious hand-recount of the state’s nearly 4.8 million ballots. Trump was declared the winner of the state’s 16 electoral votes by a margin of 10,704 votes on Monday. Fred Woodhams, a spokesman for the Michigan Secretary of State Office, said the objection would be filed by the end of day Thursday. Stein filed her recount request Wednesday, along with a check for $973,250 to cover the costs to recount ballots in Michigan’s 6,300 precincts. Secretary of State Ruth Johnson said Wednesday...

LANSING, Mich. — The Latest on presidential recount efforts in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin (all times local): 1:45 p.m. Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein has requested a full hand recount of Michigan’s presidential vote. Stein requested the recount on Wednesday. She had already requested recounts in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Republican Donald Trump won all three states. He defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton in Michigan by 10,704 votes out of nearly 4.8 million ballots cast. Stein alleges that irregularities and the potential for hacking into scanning devices call into question the results. The Michigan recount could start as early as Friday....

The Michigan Board of Canvassers certified the Nov. 8 election results on Monday, affirming that Republican Donald Trump won the presidential race in the state with a 10,704-vote margin of victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton. Here's what else we know: Jill Stein, Green Party candidate for president, is expected to file a request for a recount of the election results by a 2 p.m. Wednesday deadline, said her attorney, Mark Brewer, former chairman of the Michigan Democratic Party. The campaign of Donald Trump has hired two Michigan-based election lawyers — Gary Gordon and John Pirich — to represent them in...

Updated. President-elect Donald Trump, who was certified Monday as the winner of Michigan's 16 electoral votes, could contest a request for a recount of Michigan's nearly 4.8 million votes in the Nov. 8 general election. If he does, he could stretch the latest drama in a stunning election cycle well into December and close to the Electoral College vote. In the certified results, Trump led Michigan by 10,704 votes — 2,279,543 compared with 2,268,839 for Clinton. Trump hasn't said that he will take the step of contesting the recount, but he has been critical of the effort by Green Party...

Donald Trump has officially won Michigan, the final state to be awarded and the capstone of Trump’s unlikely run of narrow victories in the Midwestern states that will deliver the first-time political candidate to the White House. Michigan’s Board of Canvassers certified the results on Monday afternoon in Lansing. Trump won 2,279,543 votes (47.6 percent), according to the certified results — 10,704 more than Hillary Clinton’s 2,268,839 (47.4 percent). Trump becomes the first Republican presidential candidate to carry Michigan since George H.W. Bush won it in 1988, breaking a six-cycle Democratic winning streak. That adds Michigan’s 16 electoral votes to...
