New recommendations for U.S. dietary guidelines released on Thursday included the surprise suggestion that cholesterol should not be a nutrient of special concern—but added that sugar and saturated fat are still worth worrying about. In a move that happens only every five years, the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, an independent group of 14 experts advising Health and Human Services (HHS) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), released a proposed update for what Americans should be eating. The proposal is over 500 pages long, but summed up the guidelines as follows: ... ...But overall, nutrition experts were satisfied with the...

DUNLAP, Tenn. (Tribune News Service) — After surviving two wars, frigid weather took the life of Bradley Sutter this week. Police found the 85-year-old dead in his rural mobile home with nothing but electric blankets for heat. With temperatures in the single digits this week, concerned neighbors asked the Sequatchie County Sheriff's Office to check on Sutter, whom neighbors hadn't seen in several days. Deputies found him dead of hypothermia Wednesday afternoon inside his squalid mobile home, which is tucked away in some woods off of state Route 111 near Dunlap. Deputies found an electric furnace in the home, but...

--SNIP-- This week I’ve been using the $35 Raspberry Pi 2, a bare-bones Linux computer no bigger than a juice box. And I’ve rediscovered something I had forgotten: the thrill of tinkering with a machine and its software. Of course, that thrill is accompanied, from time to time, with the urge to take a baseball bat to an inanimate object.

All it took was a Facebook post, the kindness of strangers and eventually a helicopter to save the day for a 6-year-old Florida boy. For Glenn Buratti's birthday, his mother Ashlee Buratti said she invited his entire class over for a party. When none of the 16 kids showed up, her son was devastated. "To see the look on his face killed me inside," Buratti told CBS News Orlando affiliate WKMG. Her son, who is autistic, was so saddened by the absence of guests, she said, that he refused to smile. "I know this might be something silly to rant...

The King’s Peach Let me be clear, the notion that I am not is unfounded. Some may say that you folks are not American. We will appeal it. It is a problem that I inherited and the change won’t be easy. But I won and so there will be setbacks and false starts. Vacations and Golfing. Make no mistake, it won’t happen overnight. Until we can correct the situation, I have issued an Executive Order allowing me to apologize for my country. Oops. My bad.

BUSTED: We Have Axelrod’s Father’s Communist Party Membership #ObamaLovesAmerica Gotnews.com has exclusively discovered David Axelrod’s father’s Communist Party membership. David Axelrod’s book, “Believer: My Forty Years in Politics,” details his very close relationship with his father, Joseph. He repeatedly told Charlie Rose that his father believed in the American dream. In fact, Axelrod’s father, Joseph, was a card-carrying communist. He’s listed as a member of the Communist Party for the 1936 general election. Axelrod briefly mentions his father’s Communist views in his book but only in passing and in a section about how he got to visit the former Soviet Union. Axelrod...

This is a big mistake. I don't know why everyone feels the need to cave to these homo militants. Somebody is giving Jeb the wrong advice. I predict this homosexual activist is going to damage the campaign because of his disorder. I suspect he is a Dem plant.

The kippah is prohibited all over Europe. It is the symbol of a continent that is inexorably emptying itself of its Jews. Wearing a Jewish yarmulke is a revolutionary revolt in Berlin, Paris, Rome, Malmö and Brussels. Europe has lost half of its Jewish population, not since the Holocaust, but since 1960 to the present. Just stand in front of the the famous Portuguese synagogue of Amsterdam, built in 1675, in a period in which the Netherlands welcomed the Jews from all over the world, and you will understand what it means being a Jew in Europe. The police will...

The winter's deep freeze has transformed Niagara Falls into an icy spectacle, encasing the trees around it into crystal shells — a sight that's drawing tourists. The Niagara River keeps flowing below the ice cover, so the falls aren't totally frozen over. But the massive ice buildup near the brink has become a tourist magnet for the second straight year after several relatively mild winters. Ronan Farrow and Joy Reid might just be the start of a wholesale change at MSNBC. As the network begins its shift away from left-leaning hosts to a more news-oriented lineup, MSNBC may be ready to move Rev. Al Sharpton’s weeknight show, “Politics Nation,” out of its nightly lineup and over to the weekend.

The only reason Joe Biden gets away with getting handsy with women is because he has a (D) after his name There isn’t anything new about men in positions of power behaving inappropriately. A handsy boss, who has no filter and no fear of offending, is a staple of old movies and shows like Mad Men. For much of history people just looked the other way. These men were too powerful, to criticize them was to cross them, and to cross them might mean a lot of trouble for the whistleblower. Your career might be lost, your family ostracized.

A "four-finger salute," which may have originated in Turkey, has quickly become the new symbol of those supporting deposed Egyptian President Muhammad Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood. The image -- a black hand, with four fingers raised and the thumb drawn across the palm -- is being called "R4bia." It's a reference to the Rabaa Al-Adawiya Mosque, the Cairo site of a pro-Brotherhood sit-in that was violently broken up by Egyptian security forces last week, resulting in the deaths of scores of Morsi supporters. In Arabic, "rabaa" means four, or fourth. Activists have encouraged social-media users to update their Twitter...

President Barack Obama has warned that Muslim community leaders are in danger of losing the propaganda war with the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isil) and are often too “boring” to prevent their young people from getting radicalised.

Consider that activists promoting this rule had previously targeted neither AT&T nor Verizon with their first net-neutrality complaint but MetroPCS — an upstart competitor with a single-digit market share and not an ounce of market power. Its crime? Unlimited YouTube. MetroPCS offered a $40-per-month plan with unlimited talk, text, Web browsing and YouTube streaming. The company's strategy was to entice customers to switch from the four national carriers or to upgrade to its newly built 4G Long Term Evolution network. Or take T-Mobile's Music Freedom program, which the Internet conduct rule puts on the chopping block. The "Un-carrier" allows consumers...
