GREENVILLE, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Officials with the Greenville Police Department have arrested Andrew McClinton today in connection with the November fire at Hopewell MB Church in Greenville. McClinton, of Leland, is being held in the Washington County Detention Center awaiting his initial appearance in Greenville Municipal Court.

The University of Mississippi Student Body Senate has pulled a resolution which would have created a “sanctuary campus” for illegal immigrant students and banned federal immigration officials from stepping foot on campus after overwhelming backlash. HATTIESBURG, Miss. – An 18-year-old is expected to take office in January as Forrest County's next District 1 election commissioner. Local media reports that teenager Tyler Wood beat out incumbent Charlie Phillips during the Tuesday balloting. Wood, who's a student at Pearl River Community College in Hattiesburg, says he'll be up to the job despite his age. A man has been arrested in the stabbing deaths of two nuns whose bodies were found in their home in rural Mississippi, authorities said. Margaret Held and Paula Merrill, both nurse practitioners, failed to show up for work Thursday at a clinic in Lexington, where they served one of the state’s poorest counties. Authorities believe the killer took the victims’ car, a blue Toyota Corolla, which was later found on an abandoned road less than a mile from their home. Two Catholic nuns were found dead inside their Mississippi home after they didn’t show up to work Thursday, according to police. Both women had stab wounds, the Durant police chief told WJTV. The nuns have been identified as Sister Paula Merrill and Sister Margaret Held. The University of Mississippi’s marching band will no longer play any variation of the song “Dixie” – a tradition some seven decades old at football games and other sporting events. The University's Athletic Department confirmed to Mississippi Today on Friday that the song, which was the unofficial anthem of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War, will no longer be played at athletic events.
