At least three different New Jersey universities are investigating a now-viral video in which students are heard repeating a racial slur. According to BuzzFeed News, the probes were launched in recent days after Monmouth sophomore Scharina Bencosme shared the video on social media. The footage, which was captured on Snapchat, shows a group of young men and women in a circle, taking turns using the n-word.

While most Americans say that both traditional and online media are reporting “fake news,” they’re more than twice as likely to attribute the falsehoods to deliberate deception rather than to incompetence, a new poll by Monmouth University reveals. Nearly two-thirds (63%) of Americans say they’re either “regularly” (27%) or “occasionally” being fed fake news by traditional major TV and newspaper outlets. Asked to cite the reason that these media report fake news, 39% say they do it “On purpose in order to push an agenda,” while only 17% say it is “By accident or because of poor fact checking.” Another...

Ohio Gov. John Kasich leads GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump by 5 points in Mr. Kasich’s home state, according to a poll released on the eve of the March 15 primary there. Mr. Kasich had the support of 40 percent of likely GOP primary voters in Ohio in the Monmouth University poll released Monday, followed by Mr. Trump at 35 percent. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas was at 15 percent and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida was at 5 percent. “The Ohio race is tight, but with Rubio floundering in Florida, Kasich could potentially bolster his standing as the establishment’s...

Bernie Sanders now leads Hillary Clinton by 14 points in New Hampshire, according to the latest Monmouth University Poll of likely New Hampshire voters who are likely to vote in the first-in-the-nation primary in February. Fifty-three percent of these voters choose Sanders, compared to 39 percent for Clinton. And the new poll shows that Clinton has also lost her edge over Sanders among registered Democrats, women and older voters. Sanders has now surpassed her with these voters, while holding onto his lead among registered independents, men and younger voters.
  • Chris Christie comes under scrutiny for counterterrorism claims

Ten days after the Paris terrorist attacks, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie trumpeted his connections to Americans who lost loved ones on Sept. 11, 2001. "For me, it is a daily occurrence to look into the eyes of the people who lost their husbands and wives, their fathers and mothers, their sisters and brothers, their sons and daughters," he told the Council on Foreign Relations in November. "The threat is not minimal." A little more than a week later, after the terrorist attack in San Bernardino, Calif., those words seemed prophetic -- and the Republican presidential hopeful shifted emphasis from...

Everyone today is freaking out about a poll from Monmouth University that purports to show Donald Trump getting 41% of the Republican vote. There's a lot to note about exactly how garbage this poll is. It is so bad that Monmouth's own polling director is basically disavowing it. If you are interested in a relatively robust writeup of the methodological problems with the poll itself, which are primarily driven by the insane method Monmouth used to select their sample, you can check this Politico writeup here. That having been said, we pretend that any of the other polls are more...

Joining in with the latest string of poll’s widening Mitt Romney’s edge over President Obama, a nationwide poll released by Monmouth University on Monday maintains that Romney has made inroads against the president, not merely since the first presidential debate, but has managed to continue that upward momentum even after the second debate (which Obama supposedly won) as well.
