  • "Barack Obama, socialist?"

    10/09/2008 5:34:49 PM PDT · by ransomnote · 10 replies · 544+ views
Was he a member or was he simply endorsed by the Party, which had a strategy of endorsing Democratic Party candidates who were sufficiently left wing? In any case, I don't think it's right to call the New Party "socialist." I remember this party. One of the founders was UW lawprof Joel Rogers. They presented themselves not as socialists, but as left-leaning and progressive. I realize that for right wingers that counts as "socialist," but let's not be inflammatory.

There’s a lot of blog buzz over Barack Obama’s membership in the socialist New Party. You can read about it here, here, and here. A year ago, I might have gotten as worked up about this as everyone else seems to be. But after watching a GOP White House and Republican collaborationists fork over billions upon billions in socialist aid to private businesses, presiding over the most massive nationalization efforts I’ve seen in my lifetime over the past year — and then watching John McCain pitch his Treasury Department-as-national loan servicer plan during the debate — it’s hard for me...

So I have been e-mailing every talk show host, newspaper, sending faxes to papers, even sent faxes to every McCain campaign regional headquarters regarding the Obama New Party and DSA information uncovered in the past few days. Has anyone else heard anything new?? I cannot believe with how clear the connection is that this story hasn't broke anywhere outside of a few blogs.

I don't know how long Barack Obama's name will remain on the Wikipedia page for the New Party entry but it looks like it was added yesterday after a bit of struggle. By not so strange coincidence, your humble correspondent also provided evidence yesterday that Obama was a member of the socialist New Party. First the description of the New Party in Wikipedia: The New Party was a third political party in the United States that tried to re-introduce the practice of electoral fusion as a political strategy for labor unions and community organizing groups. In electoral fusion, the same...

I would have thought the answer self-evident, but Roger Simon adds some nuance. Among other instances, he refers to Obama's apparent membership in the socialist New Party: And now we learn of yet another strange obfuscation or omission. In 1996, Obama was apparently a member of the Chicago “New Party,” a now defunct socialist political party of some stripe or other. There’s nothing wrong with being a socialist. I called myself one for the better part of twenty years. Millions of people have and many still do. But there is something very wrong with hiding who you are or who...
  • Obama Held Membership in Socialist New Party

Evidence is continuing to surface that indicates Barack Obama was a member of the Socialist New Party, an organization headquartered in Chicago during the mid-1990s. The New Party was formed to serve as a in Chicago by the Democrat Socialists of America in 1992 to serve as a central coordinating body for various Socialist Party activities in the region. It survived until 2000, when it disintegrated into its various factions. The Organization experienced a bump in membership in the late 1990s but was all but defunct by 2000 in part because of a Supreme Court decision that ruled the organizations...

I've been attempting to shine light on Obama's hidden Marxist past, so I've been excited to see a buzz in the blogosphere today about Obama's affiliation with a socialist party called The New Party. See here, here and here, for example. I just wanted to mention that this month's issue of the invaluable Commentary Magazine has the low-down on Obama and the New Party (and much more) in an article entitled Obama's Leftism, which I have linked to before. The article should be mandatory reading for all Americans. In any event, here's the excerpt on Obama and the New Party...

Barack Obama, Socialist? "This may be a case of the irresistible force meeting the immovable object. The political, media, cultural and social establishments are determined to elect the pro-status quo, anti-change candidate, Barack Obama, as President. The power and money arrayed behind Obama seem unbeatable. At the same time, it is inconceivable that the American people would elect a socialist President. So, if this report is correct, something's got to give. In June sources released information that during his campaign for the State Senate in Illinois, Barack Obama was endorsed by an organization known as the Chicago "New Party". The...

Evidence of Far Left Ties to the Democratic Socialists of America and New Party. Those of us in the Chicago vicinity know what this guy is all about, we have seen him elected from out of nowhere, twice now, and know first hand how elections around here don't mean anything because it is not the election that counts, it is who you know and who you are associated with. That is the reality of Chicago politics, always has been since the first Daley, and will continue at least as long as the last Daley remains in place. The only way...

When I saw this at Ace’s, it sounded so familiar that I spent 20 minutes checking our archives for the post I was sure Ed or Bryan had written about it. I was wrong; it wasn’t HA that blogged it, it was Erick Erickson at Red State in early June. Read his background, then see this post at Politically Drunk for evidence that The One was a member. I can’t tell definitively from either just how far left the NP was at the time; it may be that, like a lot of new third parties, they hadn’t quite hammered out...

Big: Scrubbed Web Pages Resurface Naming Obama As Member of Expressly-Leftist "New Party" > We spent a month on Palin's nonexistent membership in the AIP. Anyone think the MSM will follow-up here? The New Party was a radical left organization, established in 1992, to amalgamate far left groups and push the United States into socialism by forcing the Democratic Party to the left. It was an attempt to regroup the forces on the left in a new strategy to take power, burrowing from within. The party only lasted until 1998, when its strategy of “fusion” failed to withstand a...

The New Party believes that the social, economic, and political progress of the United States requires a democratic revolution in America -- the return of power to the people. Our basic purpose -- reflected both in our own governance and in our aspirations for the nation -- is to make that revolution happen. At present, in America, the people do not rule. And they must, if we and our children are to lead lives of dignity, decency, and fulfillment. Our commitment to democracy comes from our recognition of the moral equality of persons. People really are created equal, and their...

Another piece in the puzzle of Barack Obama has been revealed, greatly strengthening the picture of a man groomed by an older generation of radical leftists for insertion into the American political process, trading on good looks, brains, educational pedigree, and the desire of the vast majority of the voting public to right the historical racial wrongs of the land.

After allegations surfaced in early summer over the 'New Party's' endorsement of Obama, the Obama campaign along with the remnants of the New Party and Democratic Socialists of America claimed that Obama was never a member of either organization. The DSA and 'New Party' then systematically attempted to cover up any ties between Obama and the Socialist Organizations. However, it now appears that Barack Obama was indeed a certified and acknowledged member of the DSA's New Party. On Tuesday...
