At present, more than a year after the Gulf of Mexico disaster, Big Oil’s image remains black and unattractive. The supermajors understand this, perhaps, better than all. So, what can one do to vindicate oneself? Increase expenses for environmental protection? It goes without saying such a step is being taken after the BP oil spill. Moreover, it is impossible not to increase expenses, otherwise mass media and courts would simply bury the oil industry. The question is not only in good PR; oil pollutions are poorly redeemed by an additional influx of money. What is actually needed are real actions....

The management theory is not applicable to the oil industry. This business is peculiar. Of course, if one talks about Western oil companies, then here it is alright. Management theorems and models work in them successfully as in any other corporations like General Motors and Microsoft. However what share of oil does western Big Oil produce? The answer is only 10%. It controls still less – about 6% of all world reserves. The rest is controlled by national oil companies. By the way there are not so many of them – usually one for each petrostate. And as you see,...

"What are they so afraid of?” Buffeted by a series of attacks by White House spokesmen and left-leaning media, conservative publisher Regnery (sister company to HE.com) has decided to come out swinging. Long slated for an October release, Regnery moved up the release date for bestselling author Dinesh D’Souza’s controversial new book, The Roots of Obama’s Rage, to this coming Monday, September 27. The new date will be just in time to respond to the front-page hit piece rumored to be coming in (where else?) the New York Times this weekend. The White House has been “generous” with its attention...

Human Events has learned that the White House raked Forbes magazine’s White House bureau chief over the coals yesterday for a story Forbes ran by respected conservative and New York Times bestselling author Dinesh D’Souza. Sources tell us the White House attempted to get the nation’s #1 business magazine to back away from its cover story titled, “How Obama Thinks.” The Forbes article is derived from D’Souza’s upcoming book The Roots of Obama’s Rage (Regnery, a sister company to HE.com). Even though the book won’t be in stores until next week, left-leaning media and politicos have already joined forces in...

ELK POINT, S.D. -- Flashing a smile, Joyce Bortscheller briefly hugged Hyperion Energy Center executive Preston Phillips as she greeted him in the backyard of her home here. Bortscheller, president of the Elk Point City Council, had invited about 250 supporters to an outdoor barbecue Tuesday to await the returns for arguably the most important election in Union County's history. The big crowd didn't leave disappointed. As midnight approached, they popped the champagne corks, celebrating a hard-fought victory that keeps alive the county's chances of landing the nation's first all-new oil refinery in 32 years. By a solid 58 percent...
