RALEIGH, N.C. (AP)--Andy and Opie are on a permanent fishing trip--immortalized in a bronze statue unveiled Tuesday by Andy Griffith, whose portrayal of a genial Southern sheriff has become a television staple. The sculpture depicts the scene in the opening credits of ``The Andy Griffith Show'' in which Sheriff Andy Taylor walks to a fishing hole with his son, Opie, to the tune of the jaunty, whistled theme song. ``That beats anything. I kind of wish I looked like that now,'' the white-haired, 77-year-old Griffith told hundreds of fans who gathered next to a pond in Raleigh's Pullen Park for...
  • Disney to Ron Howard--No Alamo Movie Unless PG Rated

As reported by Fox News, director Ron Howard is backing out of filming a new movie about the Alamo, clearly one of the seminal moments in American history and the settling of the west. According to reporter Roger Friedman, Disney balked at being involved in a project that would garner anything above a PG rating--effectively informing Howard that they wanted to tone down the violence--a problem given that the story of the Alamo is an inherantly violent one of military siege in which the Americans were greatly outnumbered and were eventually massacred by their attackers. "I wanted to do a...

The more I think about the St. Patrick's incident on the Opie and Anthony show, the madder I get. I want to nail Viacom, which produced the show, and all of its sponsors, so badly that they'll never dream of committing sacrilege in a church again. What shall we do? Who shall we boycott? So far, I've got one name--The NRO Web site says that the Boston Brewing Company used to be a sponsor. Close enough. Write to response@samadams.com and tell them to stop sponsoring it, or else. As I find other targets, I'll post 'em.
