Talk show host Oprah Winfrey was picked to serve on a jury Monday at Cook County Criminal Court. The murder trial was expected to start late Monday afternoon. Earlier, Winfrey told reporters she didn't think she would be picked because she is too opinionated. But she said if she was picked, she hoped the trial wouldn't take too long. "I'm just hoping it doesn't take longer than a week because I've got shows to do," she said.

<p>May 5, 2004 -- Faithful fans of Howard Stern are washing Oprah Winfrey's mouth out with soap - they've filed 1,900 letters with the FCC complaining that the Queen of Daytime Talk is filthier than the King of All Media. I am almost afraid to even bring this up on FR, knowing a lot of people do not like Oprah. HOWEVER, her new book club is better than the one before. I never got into her old club because I thought all the books were bleeding heart liberal crap. Now I can't call John Steinbeck's East of Eden crap can I? Has anyone ever read this book? She is sticking to the classics this time which I am happy about. I read mostly British Literature BUT I am willing to try. There has to be another FReeper that watches Oprah.

Hillary Rodham Clinton, Laura Bush and J. Lo have something in common: Americans like them. A Gallup poll found the nation divided in the contest for "most admired" woman. Among men, President Bush remained the clear favorite for the second year in a row. Clinton, the former first lady who now represents New York in the Senate, and her successor in the White House, Laura Bush, topped Gallup's list of women along with talk show host Oprah Winfrey. Clinton was favored by 7 percent of those surveyed; Bush and Winfrey had 6 percent each. Among men, the president had a...

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss collapsed and was rushed to a hospital after apparently tearing a neck muscle while attending a fund-raising dinner Tuesday night. Buss, 69, was in stable condition at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and was expected to be released within a few hours. Hospital spokesman Johnny Hagerman declined to release any other details on Buss' condition. "He turned his head really quickly and either tore or partially tore a muscle in his neck," team spokesman John Black said. Black added that the pain was so severe that Buss put his head down between...

After four years and escalating legal fees, a federal judge has dismissed a lingering lawsuit accusing Oprah Winfrey of maligning the beef industry. U.S. District Judge Mary Lou Robinson threw out "all claims and causes of action asserted or that could have been asserted" by Cactus Feeding Club and against Winfrey, her production company and vegetarian activist Howard Lyman. The lawsuit, filed in April 1998, was similar to another suit filed two years earlier that went to trial in Robinson's court in January 1998. The first suit caused Winfrey to move her popular talk show to Amarillo for several episodes...

People have often questioned President Bush's intellectual curiosity, but Bush has spent the past few months reading Bernard Goldberg's Bias, and books on Teddy Roosevelt. No one dares to question Oprah Winfrey, the talk show host who has made a killing from pronouncing books that her audience should read. Even as she cancels her book club it is all about her-about what a great service she has done. Welcome to another casualty of the cultural shift; another reminder of the growing dust heap of history that is the Clinton years. Perhaps it is unfair to criticize Oprah's literature recommendations. Time...

The other day I was watching Oprah, and for a minute I thought I was watching the Jerry Springer show..... Oprah had on the egregious Dr. Phil and was making a complete fool out of all the guests. Is this guy a doctor? He doesn't deserve any airtime anywhere, yet Oprah cuddles up to him and has him on her show almost DAILY. This guy truly makes you look like a fool and makes himself look like a stupid jack-ass in the process. Any fool can figure out the information that spews out of his mouth. It's not all...
