Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said on this week’s broadcast of “Fox News Sunday” that he did not believe if the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, it would change the outcome of this year’s midterm elections.

After a draft Supreme Court opinion seeking to overturn Roe v. Wade, which has protected the constitutional right to abortion for nearly five decades, was leaked this week, activists said they began to worry that other landmark rulings – on which modern LGBTQ+ rights hinge – may be targeted next. Protections stemming from cases like Lawrence v. Texas, which invalidated discriminatory sodomy laws, and Obergefell v. Hobbs, which legalized same-sex marriage in the U.S., will not immediately disappear with the overturning of Roe, but they may be weakened.

Supporters of Roe v. Wade are spreading fears that Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s draft decision overturning the landmark abortion case would mean that other Court precedents, including interracial marriage, could also be canceled.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) on Monday night concluded that overturning Roe v. Wade would be nothing more than an “assault” on the freedom of women at the hands of “right wing extremists.” “New York City knows that a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions is hers and hers alone. This potential assault on their freedom by right wing extremists cannot stand,” the Democrat mayor said, announcing that they are “ready to fight like hell”:
