WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Sunday there will be negotiations on the new $3 trillion coronavirus relief legislation passed by the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives and that Democrats have “no red lines.” Asked if there has been a Republican response or counteroffer to begin negotiations on the bill passed late on Friday, Pelosi said, “No bill that is proffered will become law without negotiations, so, yeah.” The Democrats’ measure, passed late on Friday, was likely to trigger new talks with congressional Republicans and President Donald Trump’s administration, who have been talking about the need for...

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Saturday called for Veritas, one of San Francisco’s biggest landlords, to return a $3.6 million Paycheck Protection Program loan that was intended to help small businesses cover expenses and retain workers during the coronavirus pandemic. “PPP loans should be directed first and foremost to the small businesses with the greatest need, particularly minority, women and veteran-owned businesses that are struggling,” Pelosi said in a statement. “Larger companies like Veritas, one of San Francisco’s largest corporate real estate management firms, which has billions in assets and access to liquidity through other sources, were not the intended...

The House has passed the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act HEROES (Act) on Friday night. The $3 trillion stimulus package, which is expected to be ignored by the Republican-controlled Senate (at least in its current form), would have considerable implications for student loan borrowers. The legislation would extend the CARES Act provision that automatically suspended interest on federal student loans (as well as payment and involuntary collections) for another year, meaning that federal student loan borrowers would not have to pay back their student loans until September 30, 2021. And while other protections would extend to borrowers...

Gavin Newsom is succeeding someone who could be considered his quasi-uncle, since his inauguration continues the decades-long saga of four San Francisco families intertwined by blood, by marriage, by money, by culture and, of course, by politics – the Browns, the Newsoms, the Pelosis and the Gettys. The connections date back at least 80 years, to when Jerry Brown’s father, Pat Brown, ran for San Francisco district attorney, losing in 1939 but winning in 1943, with the help of his close friend and Gavin Newsom’s grandfather, businessman William Newsom. Fast forward two decades...

The latest economic stimulus package narrowly passed by the House on Friday was a tiptoeing act for Democratic leadership, not because they tried to craft a $3 trillion piece of bipartisan legislation - neither Republicans nor the White House were consulted - but because they struggled to get members of their own party on board. As a result of the inability to appease the entire caucus, some moderate and liberal Democrats crossed the aisle to join Republicans to vote against the proposal that includes another round of stimulus checks, state and local aid, an expansion of unemployed benefits and rent...

Americans had a collective fit when they learned about Nancy Pelosi’s insane new “relief” bill. The massive spending package would cost us $3 trillion dollars. All of it would go to Democrat “wish lists.” Immediately, the White House promised they would never sign such a bill. Now, Pelosi is backtracking. You have to give it to Nancy Pelosi. The old gal doesn’t give two rats asses about America. When Congress was trying to pass funding to save small businesses, she held it up… twice. Then, she closed the House, preventing lawmakers from continuing to provide solutions during the crisis. Meanwhile,...

The House of Representatives on Friday passed a historic piece of legislation , allowing members to vote by proxy and conduct hearings remotely for the next 45 days because of the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic. Under the new rules, which passed mostly along party lines, congressmen and women can give written instructions to another member in the chamber to vote on their behalf. One representative can serve as a proxy voter for up to 10 other members at any given time. Those who choose to work remotely can still participate in open hearings and cast committee votes. Closed hearings, however, will...

When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the $3 trillion coronavirus spending bill she and her allies had written – a bill passed by House Democrats Friday night with only a single Republican vote in support – my first reaction was that it would be dead on arrival in the Senate and that the move made no sense. The bill is the most expensive spending bill ever passed in the history of the House of Representatives, but Pelosi took no public comment, no Republican input, and didn’t consult with the Republican-controlled Senate or the White House on the bill. As we...

Morality test! This test only has one question, but it's a very important one. By giving an honest answer you will discover where you stand morally. The test features an unlikely and completely fictional situation in which you will have to make a decision. Only you will know the results, so remember that your answer needs to be honest. THE SITUATION: You are in Miami with chaos all around you caused by a hurricane. There is a flood of biblical proportions. You are a photojournalist working for a major newspaper and you're caught in the middle of this epic disaster....

Melony Wagner, owner of the Charles Village Pub in Baltimore, reports that her effort to reopen are being impeded by employees refusing to return to work. "The unemployment benefits augmented by the federal stimulus money they're getting exceeds the amount they made in wages and tips before we were ordered to shutdown," she said. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) boasted that "this restaurant example vindicates what I've been saying for years. Unemployment compensation is a better source of income than jobs. This may be inconvenient for people like Ms. Wagner, but it is her own fault for trying to operate...

Russia Investigation Transcripts and Documents Materials from the Committee's Investigation into Russian Active Measures In 2017 and 2018, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) undertook an investigation into Russia’s interference campaign targeting the 2016 U.S. election. The Committee’s investigation came on the heels of an Intelligence Community assessment, which found: “Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the US presidential election. Russia’s goals were to undermine public faith in the US democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency. We further assess Putin and the Russian Government developed a...

According to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, the Heroes Act also includes a retroactive change to the CARES Act, which included the first round of stimulus checks. The change allows illegal immigrants who file taxes using an ITIN to receive money from initial payments. The group estimated that “more than 4.3 million adults and 3.5 million children would benefit from this change.” Because of the retroactive clause, an additional $7 billion in aid would be disbursed.

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's new $3 trillion coronavirus spending proposal is politically motivated "garbage" that "doesn't pass the laugh test," Sen. Bill Cassidy argued Wednesday. Appearing on "America's Newsroom" with host Ed Henry, Cassidy, R-La., said Pelosi tried to get away with more liberal additions to the bill once again, but this time it's hidden in the fine print. "Clearly she went to her committee chairs and she said give me that which you think maybe we can get in here – a starting point for negotiations so we’ll look reasonable when we retreat from it," he explained. "On...

It’s a good seven months until Christmas, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is already playing Santa Claus with taxpayer money. The California Democrat is proposing a $3 trillion bill, titled the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act, or HEROES Act, that is packed full of gifts to Democrats. And incredibly, this is the pared-down version. The New York Times reports that the original Democratic bill asked for $4 trillion.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi acknowledged Thursday the long odds of the Democrats' $3 trillion coronavirus relief legislation of becoming law and suggested the massive bill could be a starting point of negotiations with the White House and Senate. "We're putting our offer on the table, we're open to negotiation," Pelosi said Thursday on the eve of the planned vote on the HEROES Act. Her comments came just as the White House issued an official veto threat on the legislation, accusing Democrats of wanting to pass "long-standing partisan and ideological wish lists" rather than addressing the nation's public health and economic...

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed support for Los Angeles’s extension of stay-at-home orders for three more months and downplayed it as “inconvenient.” “Well, of course, I agree with the decisions of the people on the ground in their particular venue and location,” the California Democrat said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe when asked about the news that Los Angeles would remain closed for three more months. “Because again, as Dr. Fauci said earlier, and I wish the president would listen to him, or hear him even, that you just cannot pretend it went away and go out there. So, yes, it’s...

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the Republican Senate caucus took House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s $3 trillion extravaganza of waste and delusion and declared the package “dead on arrival.†In truth, it was dead before it was born. Donald Trump doesn’t want another massive bailout bill and Mitch McConnell isn’t keen on the idea either. So, with an eye on November — and as a sop to their rabid, radical constituencies — House Democrats loaded up a “stimulus†bill with every left-wing fantasy, desire, wet dream, and “transformation†of the U.S. they could muster and threw it against a wall...
