WASHINGTON — On the eve of the first presidential debate, a new Morning Call/Muhlenberg College poll shows a narrow gap between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump amid rising support for Trump within his own party. Clinton still leads Trump in a head-to-head matchup, but only by a 3-point margin, 44 percent to 41 percent. Those results showed Clinton's support dropping and Trump's gaining compared with a Morning Call/Muhlenberg poll a week earlier, which showed Clinton at 47 percent and Trump at 38 percent. In a four-way matchup, Clinton leads by 2 points, at 40 percent to Trump's 38...

Students all over Penn State University agree on this much about Hillary Clinton: "She’s slimy," said Anay Pope. And Pope, 25, is a Clinton supporter. For the moment. Clinton’s poll numbers are sagging, and the biggest reason is that she’s plunging among young voters. A Quinnipiac University poll this month found that in a four-way race, Clinton is up 5 points nationally with 18- to 34-year-old voters, down from a 24-point lead just a month before. Just days ahead of the first debate Monday and less than two months before voting ends, she faces two challenges: Many young voters are...

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Hillary Clinton isn’t banking on winning pockets of Pennsylvania and Ohio packed with the sort of white, working class voters flocking to Republican Donald Trump. She just wants to avoid a wipeout.

The Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police announced Sunday night that it is officially endorsing Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in the 2016 election. In an email, FOP Lodge #5 President John McNesby confirmed to PhillyVoice that the union is bound by the national Fraternal Order of Police, which endorsed Trump last Friday and released the following statement. "[Trump] has seriously looked at the issues facing law enforcement today," said Chuck Canterbury, the FOP's national president. "He understands and supports our priorities and our members believe he will make America safe again." The announcement from Philadelphia's police union comes nearly two...

Clinton Outdoing Trump in Pennsylvania, a Must-Win State By THOMAS BEAUMONT Hillary Clinton's campaign is aggressively outworking Donald Trump in battleground Pennsylvania, a state the billionaire businessman can scarcely afford to lose and still hope to become president. Despite polling well in Pennsylvania throughout the summer, Clinton's team is nevertheless bearing down in a state her party has carried in six straight elections. They are ratcheting up advertising and dispatching their top supporters to Pennsylvania, from Bill Clinton to Joe Biden to last week's visit from President Barack Obama. "We've got to fight for this thing," Obama thundered at a...

WASHINGTON — Democrat Hillary Clinton has a 9-point lead among likely Pennsylvania voters as Republican Donald Trump continues to struggle among groups key to winning the state, according to a Morning Call/Muhlenberg College poll released Saturday. The survey, conducted Sept. 12-16, shows Clinton leading the presidential race here with support from 47 percent of likely voters who say they intend to vote for her or are leaning that way. Trump is at 38 percent, while 11 percent say they'd pick neither of the major-party choices, and 4 percent are not sure. Clinton's lead narrows slightly to 8 percent when third-party...

--SNIP-- Khalil Sulayman, 18, of Township Line Road, was locked up on aggravated assault and related offenses stemming from the melee, which ultimately left three police officers with injuries requiring hospital care, according to Chitwood and online court records. “The key to this is the community members who came out. In this day and age, it is great to have that support,” Chitwood said. Along with a Harper Avenue resident who came out swinging his golf club during the police-involved altercation, Chitwood said at least two other Harper Avenue residents called 911.

Think your one vote doesn't really matter? According to experts, it will — a lot. Hey Pennsylvania voters: you're important. Like, really important. It's no secret Pennsylvania is an extremely-coveted battleground state for both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump this fall. But some experts are now predicting the entire 2016 presidential election could essentially boil down to how we vote here in the Keystone State. Is that enough pressure for you? (By the way, the deadline to register to vote is Oct. 11.) In a piece published Friday by the New York Times, expert David Rothschild, an economist at Microsoft...

Every square foot of Hazleton evokes America’s grand immigrant story. From the Irish cemetery on Donegal Hill, to the now closed Slovak Holy Trinity Church, this once booming Pennsylvanian coal town was a magnet to the huddled masses who crossed the Atlantic in search of a better life. In 1883, Hazleton became the third city in the world (New York was the first) to install an electric grid. It was literally a shining city on a hill. Today, as Donald Trump’s campaign steps up its focus on Pennsylvania — if he wins its 20 electoral college votes he could take...

Republicans were doing a great job eating into their voting registration deficit over the past year. In August, however, the Democrats were finally able to staunch some of the bleeding. On August 1st, statistics showed 4,074,858 Democrats and 3,159,815 Republicans. An additional 1,106,024 voters brought the grand total to 8,340,697.

Finding the patterns: After going to the Democratic contender for more than 20 years, some analysts wonder if Pennsylvania could swing back to the GOP for a Donald Trump victory. Are they giving enough credit to the state's Democratic strongholds? Pennsylvania is a big prize in the electoral college that has belonged to Democrats for more than two decades, but some analysts and local politicians are wondering if the odd circumstances surrounding the 2016 election could shift the state into the red. As Pennsylvania has consistently picked Democrats for president since electing Bill Clinton in 1992, many considered Hillary Clinton...
